He developed the techniques through his experience as a street fighter during the 1960s in Bandung. 2008 Pekan Olahraga National or the Indonesia National Games XVII were a major multi-sport event in Indonesia which took place in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, from July 5–17, 2008. A total of 7,946 athletes participated in the biggest-ever Pekan Olahraga Nasional and also the first on the island of Borneo. These games make Samarinda the second city to host Pekan Olahraga Nasional outside of the island of Java and Sumatra, after Makassar hosted the 1957 Pekan Olahraga Nasional.
2012 Pekan Olahraga Nasional or 2012 National Sports Week was a multi-sport event in Indonesia which was held in Riau from 9–20 September 2012. The previous edition was held in East Kalimantan. Thousands of athletes, officials, and journalists all across of Indonesian provinces participated to the game.
2016 Pekan Olahraga Nasional is the nineteenth edition of Pekan Olahraga Nasional. It will be held in Bandung, West Java in 2016. It will be the first time for Indonesia's third largest city of Bandung to host the games in more than forty years. Bandung hosted the fifth edition of Pekan Olahraga Nasional in 1961.

A total of 607 events in 41 sports were competed among more than 5,500 athletes from 30 provinces, with the newly created province of Riau Islands only as observer and did not send any athletes. The games also staged 8 paralympic sports.
Bung Karno Sports Arena, formerly named Senayan Sports Arena from 1969 to 2001 and Asian Games Complex on its early days, is a sports complex located in Gelora, Central Jakarta, Indonesia. It is usually mistakenly thought to be located at Senayan, South Jakarta, hence its former name. The sports complex hosts main stadium, secondary stadium, the Sports Palace, football fields, aquatic stadium, tennis stadiums, hockey, baseball and archery fields, and several indoor gymnasiums. The complex was built in 1960 for the 1962 Asian Games and recently underwent a major reconstruction for the 2018 Asian Games and Asian Para Games.
Dian David Michael Jacobs, commonly referred to as David Jacobs, is an Indonesian athlete who competes in table tennis, currently Class 10 para table tennis. Born in Ujung Pandang, he took up table tennis at the age of ten and rose quickly through national tournaments. He was training to play internationally by 2000, and in 2001 he won his first gold medal, at the SEATTA Games in Singapore. Since 2010 he has competed in para table tennis, having spent most of his career competing against athletes with full functionality. He competed in the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, winning a bronze medal.

He also won another silver in the same discipline, this time in 10000 m distance. In 2012 Pekan Olahraga Nasional, Ricky won a gold medal in 1500 m freestyle for West Java.

Dhita Juliana is an Indonesian beach volleyball player. Born in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, Juliana initially started her career as an indoor volleyball player when she was in the elementary school. She then continued as a beach volleyball player after joining the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs programme in 2008. Partnered with Putu Utami, she won the gold medal for the West Nusa Tenggara province at the 2012 Pekan Olahraga Nasional held in Riau. In the international event, she was the gold medalist at the 2013 Islamic Solidarity Games. She also won the bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand. In 2018, she claimed the bronze medal at the Asian Games.

As a beach volleyball player, Utami teamed-up with Dhita Juliana since 2011. Juliana and Utami won the gold medal for the West Nusa Tenggara province at the 2012 Pekan Olahraga Nasional held in Riau. In the international event, she and Juliana was the gold medalist at the 2013 Islamic Solidarity Games. She also won the bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand. In 2018, she claimed the bronze medal at the Asian Games.
Gilang Ramadhan is an Indonesian beach volleyball player from Bandar Lampung. Ramadhan was a gold medalist at the 2016 Pekan Olahraga Nasional held in Bandung, West Java, partnered with Ade Candra Rachmawan. He and Rachmawan also competed at the 2016 Asian Beach Games in Da Nang, Vietnam, finish in the fourth position after lost to Kazakhstani duo in the bronze medal match. In 2018, Ramadhan alongside Danangsyah Pribadi won a bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Palembang, Indonesia.
Hanifan Yudani Kusumah is an Indonesian pencak silat practitioner. He won a gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games, after previously winning a bronze medal in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games.
