Eric James Brotherton (born 7 May 1938) is a former South African cricketer and squash player.
Brotherton made his first-class debut in 1959–60,opening the batting for Eastern Province with his captain Geoff Dakin and scoring 215 runs at an average of 23.88,with most of his innings exceeding 20 but with a top score of 33. [1] In 1960–61,when Eastern Province had their best season in the Currie Cup,finishing second with four wins from six matches,Brotherton scored 336 runs at 30.54. [2] He also played a match for South African Universities,hitting 164 not out,the record score for the Universities team,against Western Province,putting on 227 for the fourth wicket with Colin Bland. [3]
After a two-season gap he played for North Eastern Transvaal in 1963–64,leading the team's aggregates and averages with 308 runs at 30.80. [4] He captained North Eastern Transvaal in 1964–65. When North Eastern Transvaal won Section B of the Currie Cup in 1965–66 he made 376 runs at 41.77, [5] scoring 111 in the first match of the season. [6] He played on with less success until 1969–70.
In the 1960s,Brotherton played squash for South Africa. [7] In 2002 he was awarded the Leo Melvill Memorial Award,an annual prize for significant contribution to the development,growth and enjoyment of squash in South Africa. [8]
Robert Graeme Pollock is a former cricketer for South Africa,Transvaal and Eastern Province. A member of a famous cricketing family,Pollock is widely regarded as one of South Africa's greatest ever cricketers,and as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket. Despite Pollock's international career being cut short at the age of 26 by the sporting boycott of South Africa,and all but one of his 23 Test matches being against England and Australia,the leading cricket nations of the day,he broke a number of records. His completed career Test match batting average of 60.97 remains the third best behind Sir Don Bradman and Adam Voges.
The CSA 4-Day Domestic Series is the domestic first class cricket competition of South Africa. The tournament is contested by teams from all nine provinces of South Africa.
Trevor Leslie Goddard was a Test cricketer. An all-rounder,he played 41 Test matches for South Africa from 1955 to 1970. He captained the young South African team on its five-month tour of Australia and New Zealand in the 1963–64 season,levelling the series with Australia,and was also captain in 1964–65 against England in South Africa.
Alfred Henry Cecil Cooper was a South African cricketer who played a single Test match for the South African national side during the 1913–14 season. Domestically,he played for Transvaal from 1912 to 1928.
Alistair Innes"Scotch" Taylor was a South African sportsman who played first-class cricket and hockey for Transvaal,and captained the Transvaal cricket team for four seasons. Taylor represented South Africa in one cricket Test in 1956. He was an alumnus of the King Edward VII School,set up a squash section in the Old Edwardians club,and was elected president of the South African Hockey Union.

David Bartlett Pithey was a Rhodesian cricketer who played in eight Tests for South Africa from 1963 to 1967. As well as playing for Rhodesia and Western Province,he played first-class cricket for Oxford University and Northamptonshire. Christopher Martin-Jenkins described him as "spasmodically brilliant". His brother,Tony,also played Test cricket for South Africa;they played together in five of the Tests on the 1963–64 tour of Australasia.
