Erich Wenk (12 August 1923 – 30 March 2012) was a German bass-baritone singer in opera and especially in concert. He was a professor of voice at the Musikhochschule Köln .
Wenk was born in Königsberg . [1] [2] In 1957 he performed the Liebesliederwalzer by Johannes Brahms on a tour through Germany with Erna Berger, Gertrude Pitzinger and Walther Ludwig. [1] [2] He recorded the part of Don Fernando in Beethoven's Fidelio for the NDR, conducted by Carl Bamberger , with Gladys Kuchta and Julius Patzak in leading roles. [3] In 1960, he sang the part of nobleman from Genova in a recording of Franz Schreker's Die Gezeichneten of the NDR, with Thomas Stewart and Evelyn Lear in leading roles, conducted by Winfried Zillig. [4] In 1967, he recorded Georg Philipp Telemann's Pimpinone with the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, alongside Yvonne Ciannella. [5]
Wenk appeared in oratorios such as Haydn's Die Schöpfung and Ein Deutsches Requiem by Brahms, performed by the Städtischer Musikverein Gütersloh and the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie in 1959, conducted by Mattias Büchel. In 1967 he sang in Frank Martin's In terra pax, in 1968 in Bach's Christmas Oratorio . [6] In 1979, he performed the title role of Mendelssohn's Elias with the Rheingauer Kantorei and the Radiosinfonieorchester Frankfurt , in the Rheingauer Dom in Geisenheim and the Marktkirche Wiesbaden , alongside soprano Klesie Kelly. Wenk is regarded as a specialist for the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. [2] He recorded Bach cantatas with Fritz Werner and Helmuth Rilling, among others. In a 1966 recording of the dramma per musica Preise dein Glücke, gesegnetes Sachsen, BWV 215 , he performed the rage aria Rase nur, verwegner Schwarm. [1] [8] Wenk recorded Bach's Mass in B minor in 1956/59 with the Schwäbischer Singkreis Stuttgart, conducted by Hans Grischkat. [9] He sang the bass part in Bach's St Matthew Passion in a live recording conducted by Ljubomir Romansky at the Salle Pleyel, with Josef Traxel as the Evangelist and Helmut Fehn as the vox Christi . From 1969, Wenk was professor of voice at the Musikhochschule Köln . [1] [11] He died in Lohmar. [1] [2]
Helmuth Rilling is a German choral conductor and an academic teacher. He is the founder of the Gächinger Kantorei (1954), the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart (1965), the Oregon Bach Festival (1970), the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart (1981) and other Bach Academies worldwide, as well as the "Festival Ensemble Stuttgart" (2001) and the "Junges Stuttgarter Bach Ensemble" (2011). He taught choral conducting at the Frankfurt Musikhochschule from 1965 to 1989 and led the Frankfurter Kantorei from 1969 to 1982.
Gottfried Reiche was a German trumpet player and composer of the Baroque era. Reiche is best known for having been Johann Sebastian Bach's chief trumpeter at Leipzig from Bach's arrival there in 1723 until Reiche's death.
The Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach is a 1968 film by the French filmmaking duo of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet. It was their first full-length feature film, and reportedly took a decade to finance. The film stars renowned harpsichordist Gustav Leonhardt as Johann Sebastian Bach and Christiane Lang as Anna Magdalena Bach. The orchestral music was performed by Concentus Musicus and conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt. It is the first of several Straub-Huillet films to be based on works of classical music. The film was entered into the 18th Berlin International Film Festival.
The cantatas composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, known as Bach cantatas, are a body of work consisting of over 200 surviving independent works, and at least several dozen that are considered lost. As far as known, Bach's earliest cantatas date from 1707, the year he moved to Mühlhausen, although he may have begun composing them at his previous post in Arnstadt. Most of Bach's church cantatas date from his first years as Thomaskantor and director of church music in Leipzig, a position which he took up in 1723.

He composed the cantata gratulatoria or Dramma per musica in Leipzig as a Festmusik für das kurfürstlich sächsische Haus for the anniversary of the election of August III, Elector of Saxony, as King of Poland, and first performed it on 5 October 1734 in the presence of the Elector.
Es lebe der König, der Vater im Lande, BWV Anh. 11, is a secular cantata by J. S. Bach to a text by Picander. The work was composed in Leipzig for the name day of the Elector of Saxony, and first performed in August 1732. The music is lost. Picander's text was published in Ernst-Schertzhaffte und Satyrische Gedichte, Teil IV.
