Erie High School is a high school in Erie, Pennsylvania, in the United States. Formerly called Central Tech High School, it was renamed in 2017 after the Erie City School District converted two of the other high schools, Strong Vincent High School and East High School, into middle schools. [2]
The first Erie High School opened in 1866, before being renamed Central High School in 1920. [3]
Erie High School celebrated its first graduating class in 2018, about 400 out of a total of 2,278 students. [4]
On April 5, 2022, shortly after 9:20 am, a shooting occurred in the school. One student was shot by another student but was in stable condition. [5] [6] The school was locked down and students were dismissed classroom by classroom when there was found to be no additional threats. The Erie City School District announced later that the school would be closed until after Spring Break on April 18, 2022, while the district works on a plan to allow students to safely return. [7] The suspect has since been apprehended. [8]

Upon being apprehended by police, Wells was murdered when an explosive collar locked to his neck detonated. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) investigation into the murder uncovered a complex plot described as "one of the most complicated and bizarre crimes in the annals of the FBI".

The Gudgeonville Covered Bridge was an 84-foot (25.6 m) long Multiple King-post Truss covered bridge over Elk Creek in Girard Township, Erie County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Alex Hribal, a 16-year-old sophomore at the school, used a pair of eight-inch kitchen knives to stab and slash 20 students and a security guard. Four students sustained life-threatening injuries, but all survived.

On November 30, 2021, a terrorist mass shooting occurred at Oxford High School in the Detroit exurb of Oxford Township, Michigan, United States. Ethan Crumbley, age 15, armed with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, murdered four students and injured seven people, including a teacher. Authorities arrested and charged Crumbley as an adult for 24 crimes, including murder and terrorism. Crumbley pleaded guilty to all of the charges in October 2022.
