Executive Council of Anambra State

The Anambra State Executive Council (informally, the Cabinet of Anambra State) is the highest formal governmental body that plays important roles in the Government of Anambra State headed by the Governor of Anambra State. It consists of the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Commissioners who preside over ministerial departments, and the Governor's special aides.

Functions

The Executive Council exists to advise and direct the Governor. Their appointment as members of the Executive Council gives them the authority to execute power over their fields.

Charles Chukwuma Soludo is a Nigerian politician, banker, and economist who serves as the fifth governor of Anambra State since March 2022. He is a former governor and chairman of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He was appointed as the bank's governor on 29 May 2004.

Dame Virginia Ngozi Etiaba is a Nigerian politician who served as Governor of Anambra State, a state in South-Eastern Nigeria, from November 2006 to February 2007. Etiaba is the first woman to serve as governor of a Nigerian state.

Onitsha North is a Local Government Area in Anambra State, South-East Nigeria. The headquarters is in GRA, Onitsha. Onitsha is the only town in Onitsha North and Onitsha South LGA. Onitsha North has a boundary by Idemili North and Oyi local government areas to the East, Anambra East local government area to the North, Onitsha South local government area by the South and Delta State by the West. But then, it has various localities that are residential areas for the population living in the local government area. Eze V. B. C. Onyema III was a Nigerian traditional ruler of Ogwu-Ikpele in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, South Eastern from 1976 until his death in 2024. He was the successor to his father, Eze Onyema II, and one of three Patrons of the Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers.

Oseloka Henry Obaze (OHO) (born 9 April 1955 in Ogidi, Nigeria) is a native of Ochuche Umuodu in Anambra State, Nigeria. He is a Nigerian diplomat, politician, author and a retired United Nations official who served the organization as an international civil servant between 1991 and 2012. Prior to working at the United Nations, he worked as a career Foreign Service Officer (FSO) in the Nigerian Diplomatic Service from 1982-1991. Following his retirement from the United Nations, Oseloka H. Obaze served as Secretary to the State Government of Anambra State, Nigeria from June, 2012 till June, 2015 under former Governor Peter Obi and former Governor Willie Obiano.

The 2010 Anambra State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on February 6, 2010. The APGA nominee Peter Obi won the election, defeating Chris Ngige of the Action Congress of Nigeria.

The 2021 Anambra State gubernatorial election took place on 6 November 2021, to elect the Governor of Anambra State. Incumbent APGA Governor Willie Obiano was term-limited and could not seek a third consecutive term. APGA nominee, former Central Bank Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, retained the office for APGA with a 24% win over PDP nominee, former Transcorp CEO Valentine Ozigbo.

Gilbert Onyekachukwu Ibezim is a Nigerian Politician and medical doctor who is the current Deputy Governor of Anambra State since 17 March 2022. Ibezim won the 2021 Anambra State gubernatorial election alongside Governor Charles Soludo on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Ibezim is also a brother to the Anglican bishop of the Diocese on the Niger, Alexander Ibezim.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital is a federal government of Nigeria teaching hospital located in Nnewi, Anambra state. The current chief medical director is Joseph Ugboaja.

The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Anambra State will be held on 25 February 2023, to elect the 3 federal Senators from Anambra State, one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election, as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives; with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.

Anambra State ICT Agency, established in 2019, is a parastatal under the Anambra State Government to drive ICT innovations for a digital state. The parastatal was established under the administration of the former Governor – Chief Willie Obiano. The Agency was charged with the responsibility of building a proactive live digital tribe to position the state in the global trend of positive smart States for sustainable development. Thus, it has the mantra, "Everything technology and technology Everywhere."

Law Mefor is a Nigerian academic psychologist, lecturer, writer, poet and a media consultant. He is currently the commissioner for the Anambra State Ministry of Information. Governor Chukwuma Soludo appointed him a commissioner in September, 2024. He was sworn in at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Awka.

Paul Nwosu is a Publisher and Editor. In April 2022, he was sworn in as a Commissioner in Anambra State, Nigeria. However, Sir Paul was replaced with Law Mefor when he resigned from his appointment as a Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment. The news had it that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo sacked him as he resigned the same day the new Commissioner was sworn in. However, his resignation letter was revealed which stated, “I wish to resign my appointment as the Commissioner, Anambra State. I have consistently been in the service of Anambra State Government for ten years and six months and I think it is about time to move on to other things. My wife, Neta, and I are very grateful for the opportunity you have given to serve Anambra State. We are confident that with the policies and programmes you have enunciated, Anambra State is destined to become the liveable and prosperous homeland you promised our people.” He was the chairman of BeeCharity Outlook Foundation, an NGO focused on child labour eradication.
