Executive Council of Oyo State

The Oyo State Executive Council (informally, the Cabinet of Oyo State) is the highest formal governmental body that plays important roles in the Oyo State Government headed by the Governor of Oyo State. It consists of the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Commissioners who preside over ministerial departments, and the Governor's special aides. [1]

Functions

The Executive Council exists to advise and direct the Governor. Their appointment as members of the Executive Council gives them the authority to execute power over their fields.

Current cabinet

The current Executive Council [2] is serving under the Engineer Seyi Makinde administration. He was elected as governor of Oyo State at the gubernatorial election of 9 March 2019. He was sworn-in as the 18th Governor of Oyo State on 29 May 2019.

Abiola Ajimobi Nigerian politician (1949–2020)

Senator Isiaka Abiola Adeyemi Ajimobi was a Nigerian politician from Oyo State, south-western Nigeria. He was formerly the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum, Nigeria. He left the oil sector in 2002 after 26 years of meritorious service and was elected in 2003 as a Senator of the Republic of Nigeria representing Oyo South Senatorial District on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). After one term in the senate, he contested in 2007 for the governorship seat of Oyo state under the banner of the All Nigeria People's Party, a bid which he lost. He contested again in the April 2011 gubernatorial elections under the Action Congress of Nigeria and was elected Governor of Oyo State in a closely contested vote. In 2019, he was succeeded by Oluwaseyi Makinde. He contested for Senator for his senatorial district but lost. In June 2020, he was confirmed to have COVID-19 and was announced dead on the 25th of June.

Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu (born 23 March 1953) is the former minister of Communications of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He is from Oyo State, Nigeria, his tenure as minister ended in 2019. Luqman Oyebisi Ilaka Nigerian politician

Chief Luqman Oyebisi Ilaka is a Nigerian politician, businessman, legal and taxation consultant and philanthropist. He was appointed the Chief of Staff under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State from 2019 to 2021. He is a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

The 2023 Oyo State gubernatorial election will take place on 11 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Oyo State, concurrent with elections to the Oyo State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election will be held two weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Seyi Makinde is running for re-election and has been renominated by his party.

In the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Executive Councils in the states of Nigeria are the highest formal governmental body in state governments headed by state governors.
