Frederick Victor Arul (1917-2006) was a high-ranking Indian police officer and former director of Central Bureau of Investigation from Yangon. [2] He was born in Nazareth,thoothukudi district
Arul was born on 24 November 1917 in Vazhayadi,Nazareth . He was educated at Loyola College and Madras Christian College in Chennai. [2]
He began his career in 1938 in the Andhra region of erstwhile Madras State. He served as a DSP,SDPO,Addl.SP and Senior Superintendent in the districts of West Godavari,Kadapa district,Tiruchirappalli district and Prakasam district. He also commanded several Armed Police battalions. He served as Deputy Inspector-General of Police in the then Tamil Nadu Criminal Investigation Department (CID),DIG of Madurai Range,and then the IG of Tamil Nadu . [3] He also served as the Police Commissioner of Madras City for two terms,the first being from 1956 to 1959. [2]
He served as the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation from 31 May 1968 to 6 May 1971. [4] He also became the first Indian to become the Vice-President of Interpol during his time in CBI serving in the Executive Committee of the Interpol as Vice-President for Asia in the 1970s. [5]
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is the premier investigating agency of India. It operates under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Personnel,Public Grievances and Pensions,Government of India. Originally set up to investigate bribery and governmental corruption,in 1965 it received expanded jurisdiction to investigate breaches of central laws enforceable by the Government of India,multi-state organised crime,multi-agency or international cases. The agency has been known to investigate several economic crimes,special crimes,cases of corruption and other cases. CBI is exempted from the provisions of the Right to Information Act. CBI is India's officially designated single point of contact for liaison with the Interpol.

The assassination of Rajiv Gandhi,former Prime Minister of India,occurred as a result of a suicide bombing in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu,India on 21 May 1991. She served in the Indian Police Service (IPS) for 37 years until her retirement in 2018 and was notably the first woman police officer of India to lead a central paramilitary force. Her husband Ramasundaram served as a senior state IAS officer in the state of Tamil Nadu until 2011.
On 19 June 2020,P. Jeyaraj and his son J. Beniks were picked up for inquiry by the Tamil Nadu Police in Sathankulam,Thoothukudi district for allegedly violating the Indian government's COVID-19 lockdown rules. According to the police,the duo was held for allegedly keeping their mobile accessories shop open beyond permissible hours on June 19. An FIR was filed against the two on 19 June and both were taken into custody. However CBI in chargesheet claimed there were no violation of the lockdown rules. they were sexually assaulted and tortured by the police while in custody,leading to their deaths. On 22 June 2020,Beniks fell ill and was moved to the Kovilpatti General Hospital,where he died later that day. The following day,22 June 2020,his father also died. The custodial death of the two men in Tamil Nadu's Sathankulam town in Thoothukudi district sparked massive outrage in the state over police brutality.

The Thanjavur student suicide case also known as Lavanya suicide case,relates to the death of a 17-year-old student in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu,India. The cause of the suicide is disputed and are being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI),the federal investigative agency in India. The investigation was transferred by the Madras High court from the local police to CBI. The Supreme Court has allowed CBI to continue the investigation.
