The Football Writers' Association Women's Footballer of the Year (often called the FWA Women's Footballer of the Year, or in England simply the Women's Footballer of the Year) is an annual award given to the player who is voted as the best of the season in English football. [1] The award has been presented since the 2017–18 season, with the inaugural winner being Chelsea forward Fran Kirby. The most recent winner of the award as of 2023–24, is Khadija Shaw of Manchester City.

Contents

The winner is selected by a vote amongst the members of the Football Writers' Association (FWA), which comprises around 400 football journalists based throughout England. [2]

She is Manchester City's all-time top goalscorer, Jamaica's all-time top goalscorer for both women and men, holds the joint record for most hat tricks in the WSL, and was awarded CONCACAF Player of the Year in 2022.

Barring total appearances, all statistics do not include the 2017 FA WSL Spring Series, which bridged the gap between the 2016 and 2017–18 season, featuring only 8 games for each team. The Women's Super League Golden Boot is an annual association football award presented to the leading goalscorer in Women's Super League (WSL). The award is sponsored by Barclays. The most recent winner is Rachel Daly who scored 22 goals for Aston Villa in the 2022–23 season. Vivianne Miedema and Sam Kerr are the only players to win the Golden Boot multiple times having both won it twice.

The 2023 FA Women's League Cup final was the twelfth final of the FA Women's League Cup, England's secondary cup competition for women's football teams and its primary league cup tournament. It took place on 5 March 2023 at Selhurst Park, and was contested by Chelsea and Arsenal.
