The Indonesian National Armed Forces are the military forces of the Republic of Indonesia. It consists of the Army (TNI-AD),Navy (TNI-AL),and Air Force (TNI-AU). The President of Indonesia is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. As of 2023,it comprises approximately 400,000 military personnel including the Indonesian Marine Corps,which is a branch of the Navy.
Umar Wirahadikusumah was an Indonesian politician and former army general,who served as the fourth vice president of Indonesia,serving from 1983 until 1988. Previously,he was chair of the Audit Board of Indonesia from 1973 until 1983,and Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army from 1969 until 1973. Born to a noble Sundanese family,he was educated at the Europeesche Lagere School Tasikmalaya and Meer Uitgebreid Lager Onderwijs Pasundan. He entered the military in 1943,during the Japanese occupation. He would go on to serve in the Indonesian Army during and after the Indonesian National Revolution,seeing combat in the Madiun Affair and the PRRI rebellion.
The Indonesian Air Force is the aerial branch of the Indonesian National Armed Forces. The Indonesian Air Force is headquartered in Jakarta,Indonesia,and is headed by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force. Its order of battle is split into three Air Operations Commands. Most of its airbases are located on the island of Java. The Indonesian Air Force also has its ground force unit,called Air Force Quick Reaction Force Command (Kopasgat). The corps is also known as the "Orange Berets" due to the distinctive color of their service headgear.

On Monday,26 July 2021,a deaf Papuan man named Steven Yadohamang was assaulted by two Indonesian Air Force Military Police from Johanes Abraham Dimara Air Base,Merauke Regency,Papua. A video recording the incident went viral and sparked substantial national concern. There are several versions circulating on the internet of how the incident began. The incident caused public outrage both in Indonesia and overseas,as well as leading to some high-ranking officials being fired.

Mohamad Tony Harjono is an Indonesian air force officer who became the 24th air force chief of staff,serving since 5 April 2024. He graduated from the air force academy in 1992 and commanded several airbases and regional commands before being entrusted to lead the air force. He was a confidant of President Joko Widodo,having served as his aide-de-camp from 2014 until 2016 and military secretary from 2020 until 2022. Military observers identified him as part of the Solo Gang,a group of military and police officers whose career rose swiftly after serving in Surakarta,the hometown of Joko Widodo.
The Indonesian Cyber Force is a proposed future branch of the Indonesian National Armed Forces. It will be the Cyberwarfare arm of the TNI. The formation of the branch was ordered by the President Joko Widodo on 3 September 2024 and currently in preparation by the Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces,General Agus Subiyanto.
