A referendum on a new constitution will be held in the Faroe Islands in 2018. [1] The referendum was announced in 2017 by Prime Minister Aksel V. Johannesen. [2] The referendum was originally scheduled to be held on 25 April 2018, but was delayed due to the Løgting being unable to agree on the wording of the new constitution. [3]

Aksel Vilhelmsson Johannesen is a Faroese lawyer and politician for the Social Democratic Party (Javnaðarflokkurin) and a former footballer. He is the current prime minister of the Faroe Islands.

The Løgting is the unicameral parliament of the Faroe Islands, an autonomous country within the Danish Realm.
