Faruk-e-Azam is a member of the advisory council of the Bangladesh Interim Government. [2] He actively took part in the Bangladesh Liberation War and later awarded Bir Protik gallantry award by the Government of Bangladesh. He was a naval commando and a deputy commander of the expeditionary team in Operation Jackpot. [3]
Faruk-e-Azam was born in Hathazari,Chittagong. He passed intermediate at the beginning of the Bangladesh Liberation War. [4]
In 1971,Faruk was in Khulna at the beginning of the Liberation War. He experienced difficulties while he was on his way to Chattogram. [5]
On May 6,he crossed the border and took shelter in India's Harina Youth Camp. During his stay there,he was enlisted in the navy. After two months of training in Palashi,he was selected for the Operation Jackpot. [6]
Three teams were selected to attack the Chattogram port on August 16,1971. One team could not reach Chattogram,but the other two teams,comprising 37 members,participated in the attack,with AW Chowdhury as the captain. Faruk was a deputy commander of "Operation Jackpot",which was one of the biggest operations against the Pakistan forces during the war carried out in Chattogram port. [7]
Faruk was one of the organisers of the first Bijoy Mela in Chattogram in 1989 and was an active member of the Forum for Planned Chattogram. [8]

An interim government led by Muhammad Yunus was formed on 8 August 2024 in Bangladesh,following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 5 August 2024 amid nationwide student and public protests against the government. Following the dissolution of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad on 6 August 2024,the interim cabinet will remain in office until a new Prime Minister is appointed after a snap general election. The government,like the previous non-caretaker government interim administrations,is extra-constitutional. However,the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh affirmed the legality of the stopgap government on 9 August 2024,citing the urgent need to manage state affairs and address the constitutional vacuum,similar to previous cases. The main pledge of his ministry is organize a constituent assembly to draft and adopt a new,democratic and inclusive constitution,ensuring the inviolability of human dignity.
On August 21,2024,heavy rainfall,coupled with a surge of water released from a dam in India's Tripura,resulted in severe flooding that affected 73 upazilas (sub-districts) and 528 unions/municipalities across 11 districts in northeastern and southeastern Bangladesh. It marks one of the worst flood events in recent history.
