The Gaisal train collision occurred on 2 August 1999, when two trains carrying about 2,500 people collided at the remote station of Gaisal in West Bengal, India. Owing to a signalling error, both trains were using the same track on a day when three of the four tracks on the line were closed for maintenance. Their combined speeds were so great that the trains exploded on impact, killing at least 285 people.

The Khanna rail disaster occurred on 26 November 1998 near Khanna on the Khanna-Ludhiana section of India's Northern Railway in Punjab, at 03:15 when the Calcutta-bound Jammu Tawi-Sealdah Express collided with six derailed coaches of the Amritsar-bound "Frontier Mail" which were lying in its path. At least 212 people were killed; the trains were estimated to be carrying 2,500 passengers. The initial derailment was caused by a broken rail. The crash is among the deadliest rail accidents in India.
The Mikawashima train crash was a multiple train crash which occurred on 3 May 1962 near Mikawashima Station in Arakawa, Tokyo, Japan. It involved a freight train and two passenger trains; 160 people were killed.
The 12801 / 12802 Purushottam Express is a daily express train which runs between Puri in Odisha and New Delhi in Delhi. It is one of the most highly demanded train between Puri to New Delhi. The train is of Superfast category and passes through states of Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh. It was the first train in India to have a Braille-embedded coach for blind passengers.
The 14723 / 14724 Kalindi Express is an Express train by the Indian Railways that connects Prayagraj Junction in Uttar Pradesh to Bhiwani Junction in Haryana. The train running from Bhiwani to Kanpur is numbered 14724 while the train from Prayagraj to Bhiwani is numbered 14723.
Firozabad railway station is on the Delhi-kanpur section of Delhi-Howarah Main line and Howrah–Gaya–Delhi line. It is located in Firozabad district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It serves Firozabad.
On 20 November 2016, the Indore–Patna Express 19321, a scheduled train from Indore to Patna, derailed near Pukhrayan, Kanpur, India, resulting in the death of 150 passengers and injuries to at least another 150.
On January 21, 2017, the Hirakhand Express 18448, a scheduled passenger train from Jagdalpur to Bhubaneswar, derailed near the village of Kuneru in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, India, killing 41 people and injuring 68 others. The train was carrying 600 passengers.
On 19 August 2017, the Kalinga Utkal Express train derailed near Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, India causing fatalities: 23 people were killed and 156 others were injured. This was the fourth major passenger train derailment in 2017 and the third in Uttar Pradesh.
Bahanaga Bazar railway station is a railway station on Kharagpur–Puri line, part of the Howrah–Chennai main line under Kharagpur railway division of South Eastern Railway zone. It is situated at Asimila, Bahanaga in Balasore district in the Indian state of Odisha. The station serves 14 trains daily, more than half of which remain within the state of Odisha.
