The Firozabad rail collision occurred on 20 August 1995 near Firozabad on the Delhi-Kanpur section of India's Northern Railway, at 02:55 [1] when a passenger train collided with a train which had stopped after hitting a nilgai, killing 358 people. [2] Some estimate the death toll at more than 400. [3] The crash happened in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Both trains were bound for the Indian capital, New Delhi.

The first train, the Kalindi Express from Kanpur, struck a nilgai and could not proceed due to damaged brakes. It was then struck from behind at a speed of 70 km/h [4] by the Purushottam Express from Puri. [1] Three carriages of the Kalindi Express were destroyed, the engine and front two carriages of the Puri train were derailed. Most of the 2,200 passengers aboard the two trains were asleep at the time of the collision. [5]

The 20801 / 20802 Magadh Express is a superfast train running between New Delhi and Islampur. Its number is 20801/20802 and it departs from Islampur and reaches New Delhi the following day. In the past, its number was 2401/2402 and was run from the Northern Railway zone. Now it is run as a train from South Eastern Railway zone. Earlier a train named Sonbhadra Express used to run between Patna to New Delhi and vice versa. It was converted to Magadh Express after combining it with Vikramshila Express.

It was the first train in India to have a Braille-embedded coach for blind passengers.

The Penukonda train collision occurred in the early hours of 22 May 2012, when the Bangalore bound Hampi Express crashed into a stationary freight train near Penukonda, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The incident killed 25 people while 43 people were injured. Three coaches derailed as a result of the crash while another caught fire. The fire was brought under control and rescue and relief operations started in a couple of hours. Railway Minister Mukul Roy, who was in Kolkata, rushed to the site of the accident and ordered an inquiry into it. Early reports suggested that Hampi Express overshot a signal and collided with a stationary goods train. Roy also announced a compensation of Rs 500,000 to the next of kin of the deceased, Rs 100,000 for those who sustained grievous injuries and Rs 50,000 to those who received minor injuries.

The 14723 / 14724 Kalindi Express is an Express train by the Indian Railways that connects Kanpur Central in Uttar Pradesh to Bhiwani Junction in Haryana. The train running from Bhiwani to Kanpur is numbered 14724 while the train from Kanpur to Bhiwani is numbered 14723.

The Karachi rail crash was a train accident between the Fareed Express and the Bahauddin Zakaria Express that occurred on 3 November 2016 at 7:18 PST at Landhi station, in Karachi, Pakistan. The Fareed Express was parked at the Landhi station when the Bahauddin Zakaria Express, which was traveling from Multan to Karachi, collided with the Fareed Express from behind, killing 21 people and injuring 65 people. Minister of Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique originally attributed the crash to the engineers of the Bahauddin Zakaria Express for failing to see both yellow and red signals earlier en-route, but Senator Saeed Ghani attributed the crash to a green signal being accidentally activated on the track the Bahauddin Zakaria Express was traveling on.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2017 Khatauli train derailment</span>

On 19 August 2017, the Kalinga Utkal Express train derailed near Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, India causing fatalities: 23 people were killed and 156 others were injured. This was the fourth major passenger train derailment in 2017 and the third in Uttar Pradesh.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Hennenman–Kroonstad train crash</span> 2018 rail transit disaster in Free State, South Africa

On 4 January 2018, a passenger train operated by Shosholoza Meyl collided with a truck at a level crossing at Geneva Station between Hennenman and Kroonstad, in the Free State, South Africa. The train derailed, and seven of the twelve carriages caught fire. Twenty-one people were killed and 254 others were injured.

On 7 June 2021, before dawn, two trains collided near Daharki, in the Ghotki District of the southern province of Sindh in Pakistan, killing at least 65 people and injuring about 150 others. An express train derailed onto the opposite track, and a second express train crashed into the first roughly a minute later. About six to eight bogies were left "completely destroyed".
