The North Central Railway is one of the 19 railway zones in India. The largest railway station in NCR is Kanpur Central. It is headquartered at Prayagraj and comprises three divisions: Prayagraj, Jhansi, and Agra of the erstwhile Northern Railway, Jhansi division of the erstwhile Central Railway, and new Agra division.

The 20801 / 20802 Magadh Express is a superfast train running between New Delhi and Islampur. Its number is 20801/20802 and it departs from Islampur and reaches New Delhi the following day. In the past, its number was 2401/2402 and was run from the Northern Railway zone. Now it is run as a train from South Eastern Railway zone. Earlier a train named Sonbhadra Express used to run between Patna to New Delhi and vice versa. It was converted to Magadh Express after combining it with Vikramshila Express.

The Firozabad rail collision occurred on 20 August 1995 near Firozabad on the Delhi-Kanpur section of India's Northern Railway, at 02:55 when a passenger train collided with a train which had stopped after hitting a nilgai, killing 358 people. Some estimate the death toll at more than 400. The crash happened in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Both trains were bound for the Indian capital, New Delhi.

The Bhagalpur – Anand Vihar Terminal Garib Rath Express is a superfast train of Indian Railways which connects Bhagalpur, an important town of Bihar and Delhi, the capital of India. Before inauguration, this train ran between Rajendra Nagar Terminal and New Delhi. The train is hauled from Bhagalpur Junction to Anand Vihar Terminal by a WAP 5 locomotive of Electric Loco Shed, Ghaziabad.
