Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is an upcoming American supernatural horror film directed by Emma Tammi. It is the first sequel to the 2023 film Five Nights at Freddy's and the second installment in the Five Nights at Freddy's film series. The film is based on the Five Nights at Freddy's video game series created by Scott Cawthon. The film stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Matthew Lillard, reprising their roles from the previous film.

Cawthon stated in August 2018 that there could be a second Five Nights at Freddy's film following the events of the second game if the first film were successful. Hutcherson revealed the development of a sequel in January 2024, with Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions officially confirming it three months later. Principal photography began in November 2024.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is scheduled to be released in the United States by Universal Pictures on December 5, 2025.

Development

In August 2018, Scott Cawthon said that if the first film were to be successful, there could be a second film that follows the events of the second game. [3] A sequel was revealed to be in development by Josh Hutcherson, the actor who portrayed the role of Mike Schmidt in the previous film, in January 2024. [4] In April 2024, Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions officially confirmed the sequel, [5] and that Jim Henson's Creature Shop would return to design animatronics for the film. [6] Matthew Lillard, who portrayed William Afton in the first film, is expected to reprise his role after previously confirming that he signed a three-picture deal with the studios. [2] In October 2024, Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Lillard were confirmed to reprise their roles. [1]

Filming

Principal photography was expected to start in late October 2024. [7] [8] At New York Comic-Con on October 17, Matthew Lillard stated that filming would start in "10 days", putting the filming date at October 27 specifically. [9] [10] [11] Filming began by November 2024. [12]

Marketing

In the days leading up to the video game series' tenth anniversary in August 2024, Scott Cawthon released images of the new animatronics being developed in Jim Henson's Creature Shop, in addition to a page from the script alongside three fake pages on his ScottGames X (Twitter) account. [13] [14] A teaser poster was released for the film in October 2024. [15]

The film stars Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Ethan Hawke reprising their roles.
