Flanders is the Dutch-speaking northern portion of Belgium and one of the communities, regions and language areas of Belgium. However, there are several overlapping definitions, including ones related to culture, language, politics and history, and sometimes involving neighbouring countries. The demonym associated with Flanders is Fleming, while the corresponding adjective is Flemish. The official capital of Flanders is the City of Brussels, although the Brussels Capital Region has an independent regional government, and the government of Flanders only oversees the community aspects of Flanders life in Brussels such as (Flemish) culture and education.

Flemish (Vlaams) also called Flemish Dutch, Belgian Dutch, or Southern Dutch is a Low Franconian dialect cluster of the Dutch language, as spoken in Flanders, a historical region in northern Belgium, by Flemings, the dominant ethnic group of the region. Along with Flanders, it is also spoken to some extent in French Flanders and the Dutch Zeelandic Flanders by approximately 6.5 million people.
The Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library is the repository library of the city of Antwerp. It is named after the Flemish writer Hendrik Conscience, whose statue adorns the library. The library conserves books and magazines to keep them available permanently.
Jan Roegiers (1944–2013) was a professor at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, and also university archivist, librarian and curator. He specialised in early modern academic history, and in particular the history of the pre-1797 University of Leuven. During his lifetime he was "generally regarded as one of the most authoritative voices in the world of academic history, archive and library science and the heritage sector in Belgium." He is also credited with giving the newly established Flemish university a sense of historical continuity with Leuven's past.

The Ruusbroec Institute is an institution for the study of the history of religious culture, spirituality and mysticism in the Low Countries. It is named after the 14th-century Flemish mystical author John of Ruusbroec.
Flandrica.be is a web portal that links the online repositories of the Flanders Heritage Library consortium in partnership with the libraries of the Antwerp Museum for Diamonds, Jewellery and Silver and the Plantin-Moretus Museum. It showcases culturally significant or aesthetically pleasing items produced in or about what is now the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is funded by the Flemish Community and by the libraries themselves. Material included in Flandrica is also made available through the EU web portal for cultural heritage, Europeana.
