The ninth season of the American reality television series Food Network Star premiered Sunday, June 2, 2013. [1]
Season 8 chef mentors Bobby Flay, Giada De Laurentiis, and Alton Brown returned for season 9, but they were not assigned to a team, nor did they hold a final elimination challenge between the bottom contestants. Season 9 featured 12 contestants, just three short of the prior season.

At least six competitors have appeared on other Food Network programs. Pham defeated Bobby Flay on Iron Chef America and also competed on Extreme Chef. Lysek and Henry appeared on Chopped ; both were eliminated before the final round. Henry also appeared on Throwdown with Bobby Flay, while Lysek also won during an appearance on 24 Hour Restaurant Battle. Poon-Kinney appeared on Restaurant: Impossible , where Robert Irvine gave her family's restaurant a makeover. Hodgson competed on The Great Food Truck Race ; his truck, Hodge Podge, was a runner-up on season 2.

Prior to the announcement of the Mentors Challenge, Robert Irvine announced the winner of the Star Salvation was Lovely, who returned to the competition.
In this season, Food Network Star added a five-week online "Star Salvation" competition, allowing one eliminated contestant a second chance to return to the main competition. Hosted by Robert Irvine, each episode features the most recently eliminated contestant competing against the remaining previously eliminated contestants. Each episode features one or two rounds of competition, judged by Irvine. [2]

Worst Cooks in America is an American reality television series that premiered on January 3, 2010, on Food Network. The show takes 12 to 16 contestants with very poor cooking skills through a culinary boot camp, to earn a cash prize of $25,000 and a Food Network cooking set. In the celebrity edition of the show, the winning celebrity gets a $50,000 prize to donate to the charity of their choice. The recruits are trained on the various basic cooking techniques including baking, knife skills, temperature, seasoning and preparation. The final challenge is to cook a restaurant-quality, three-course meal for three food critics.

Cutthroat Kitchen is an American cooking show hosted by Alton Brown that aired on the Food Network from August 11, 2013 to July 19, 2017. It features four chefs competing in a three-round elimination cooking competition. The contestants face auctions in which they can purchase opportunities to sabotage one another. Each chef is given $25,000 at the start of the show; the person left standing keeps whatever money they have not spent in the auctions. The show ended on its 15th season in July 2017. The series shares some basic elements with other four-chef, three-round elimination-style competitions on Food Network including Chopped and Guy's Grocery Games. Numerous Cutthroat Kitchen contestants have competed on these shows.

Iron Chef Gauntlet is a television series on Food Network that began airing on April 16, 2017. The series is a reboot of the Iron Chef and Iron Chef America series that gained popularity on Food Network and is hosted by Alton Brown, who also takes over as the series' Chairman. Seven chefs from around the country battle each other in an elimination contest, with the last chef remaining then facing a "gauntlet" challenge of defeating three other Iron Chefs in order to earn the title of Iron Chef. The second season of Iron Chef Gauntlet began airing April 4, 2018 and was scheduled for six episodes.
