Football Brisbane was a governing body responsible for the administration of Senior Men's, Senior Women's and Junior football (soccer) in the greater Brisbane area, in Queensland, Australia.

Formation and responsibilities

Football Brisbane was formed in 2007, with the amalgamation of Brisbane Men's Football, Brisbane Women's Soccer Association, Brisbane North & Districts Junior Soccer Association, Brisbane Southern Districts Junior Soccer Association and Soccer Australia Referees (Brisbane). It administers a zone incorporating Brisbane, Ipswich and some immediately adjoining areas, such as Caboolture, Ipswich, Redland City and Logan City.

Football Brisbane is descended from the Anglo-Queensland Football Association, formed in May 1884 (see below). [1]

Australian rules football in Queensland has a history which dates back to the mid-1860s. By the early 1880s it was the most prominent football code in the colony, but was progressively overtaken by rugby football, resulting in the local game disbanding in the early 1890s. The sport was revived in the early 1900s and continued to grow steadily across the state throughout the twentieth century, in the shadow of the other football variants particularly rugby league and rugby union.

Eastern Suburbs Football Club is an Australian soccer club from East Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The club is the most centrally located of all the semi-professional clubs in Brisbane, situated approximately 2.7 kilometres (1.7 mi) from the city centre. Easts competes in the National Premier Leagues Queensland, in both the men's and women's competitions, and play their home games at Heath Park, East Brisbane.

The Brisbane Premier League (BPL), also known as the Flight Centre Premier League, is the first tier of senior soccer in Brisbane, Queensland. It is run and administered by Football Brisbane. Twelve teams play a twenty-two match regular season, with the team at the top of the table designated as 'Premiers', and the top four teams qualifying for a finals series.

Football Brisbane Capital League 1 Football league

Capital League 1 is the second tier of men's senior football (soccer) in Brisbane, Queensland and Level 5 within the Australia. It is administered by Football Brisbane. All clubs participating in Capital League 1 must field two teams, one in first grade, and another in the reserves competition. Clubs in the NPL and Brisbane Premier League cannot field their reserves teams in this division.

History of soccer in Brisbane, Queensland

The earliest known records of regular association football (soccer) games in Brisbane date from the early 1880s, when a group comprising mostly Scottish immigrants commenced playing at Queen's Park, adjacent to Alice and Edward Streets in the city and vacant land in Melbourne Street South Brisbane, between Grey and Stanley Streets. This group of players subsequently formed the Anglo-Queensland Football Association in early 1884, and commenced playing fixtures at the sports field behind the Pineapple Hotel, in Main Street Kangaroo Point, and at Queen's Park, in June 1884.

Westside Grovely FC is a football (soccer) club based in the locality of Grovely, Queensland, Australia. The club currently has Men's teams in the Football Brisbane Capital League 2, Capital League 2 Reserves, and City League competitions, as well as a City League Women's team. The club also has junior teams for all ages, and Masters team for overage players.

Bardon Latrobe FC soccer club in Brisbane, Australia

Oxley United FC Football club

Oxley United is an Australian football (soccer) club based in Corinda, Queensland. The club was established in 1913 and is the oldest extant club in continuous existence in the Brisbane region. Oxley United had its golden age in the late 1950s and early 1960s, winning the Brisbane First Division in 1958, and competing in Australia's first national cup competition, the 1962 Australia Cup. Oxley United FC currently competes in the Capital League 2 competition.

Grange Thistle is an Australian association football club based in Grange, Queensland. In 2021, the club fielded 11 senior teams and more than 85 junior teams. The club was formed in 1945, and currently competes in Capital League 1. The club seeks to encourage participation in sport across the communities of Brisbane's inner southern suburbs by providing quality facilities and football in a caring, inclusive environment.

Nerang Soccer Club Football club

Nerang Soccer Club is an Australian amateur football club based in Gold Coast, Queensland. The club was founded in 1972 and currently competes in the Football Gold Coast junior and senior competitions.
