Francesca Bortolozzi (born 4 May 1968) is an Italian former fencer. She won two gold medals and a silver in the women's team foil events between 1988 and 1996. [1] [2] She won a gold medal at the individual foil event. She is married to Andrea Borella, who was also an Olympic fencing champion for Italy. [3]
Vladimir Viktorovich Smirnov was a Soviet foil and épée fencer. He was the 1980 Olympic champion in men's foil, and the 1981 world champion in men's foil. He was killed accidentally in a bout during the 1982 World Fencing Championships in Rome, Italy.
Edoardo Mangiarotti was an Italian fencer. He won a total of 39 Olympic titles and World championships, more than any other fencer in the history of the sport. His Olympic medals include one individual gold, five team golds, five silver, and two bronze medals from 1936 to 1960, making him the most decorated Italian Olympian of all time and tied for the tenth-most decorated Olympian of all time.
Maria Valentina Vezzali is an Italian politician and retired Olympic and World Champion foil fencer. As a fencer, Vezzali won six Olympic gold medals and was a 16-time World Champion in foil. Valentyna Ksenofontivna Rastvorova was a Ukrainian who was a Soviet fencer who competed in the 1956, 1960, and 1964 Olympics in the individual foil and team foil events. She won an individual silver medal and team gold medal in 1960, and a team silver medal in 1964. She also won six gold and two silver medals at the world championships of 1956–67.

Andrea Borella is an Italian fencer. His team won a gold medal in the team foil event at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He won a bronze medal in the individual foil event at the 1991 Mediterranean Games. Borella won European Championships in 1981 and 1983, as well as three World Cups. He is married to Francesca Bortolozzi, who was also an Olympic fencing champion for Italy.
The men's foil was one of eight fencing events on the fencing at the 1988 Summer Olympics programme. It was the twentieth appearance of the event. The competition was held from 20 to 21 September 1988. 68 fencers from 29 nations competed. Nations had been limited to three fencers each since 1928. The event was won by Stefano Cerioni of Italy, the nation's second consecutive and seventh overall victory in the men's foil. Cerioni was the ninth man to win multiple medals in the event. Udo Wagner earned East Germany's first medal in the event with his silver, while Aleksandr Romankov's bronze put the Soviet Union back on the podium after a one-Games absence caused by the boycott. Romankov also became the third man to win three medals in the event.
Yelena Borisovna Grishina is a former Soviet fencer. She competed in the women's team foil events at the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics. In the 1989 World Fencing Championships and the 1990 World Fencing Championships she won silver medals in foil team competing for the Soviet Union, and in 1995 she won a bronze medal in the European Championships in foil.
Anna Bentley is a British foil fencer. She represented Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Inès Boubakri is a Tunisian foil fencer. She is a four-time Olympian, who won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and is a member of Association sportive de Bourg-la-Reine in France, under head coach Yann Detienne.
İrem Karamete is a Turkish fencer competing in the foil event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She is the first Turkish fencer to qualify for the Olympics since 1984.
Martina Favaretto is an Italian fencer. She won one of the bronze medals in the women's foil event at the 2023 World Fencing Championships held in Milan, Italy. She won the silver medal in her event at the 2023 European Fencing Championships held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Favaretto is also a gold medalist in the women's team foil event at the 2022 World Fencing Championships and the 2022 European Fencing Championships.
