Frank Miller Ruff Jr. (born September 22,1949) is an American politician who served in the Virginia General Assembly. A Republican,he served in the Virginia House of Delegates for the 61st district from 1994 to 2000 and in the Senate of Virginia for the 15th district from 2000 to 2024 representing parts of Southside Virginia.
Due to ongoing treatment for kidney cancer,Ruff resigned from his Senate seat on January 9,2024. [1] He had previously been elected to a sixth term in the redrawn 9th district in 2023,a special election was held on January 9,2024. [2]

He represented the 7th district in Virginia Beach and Norfolk from 2001 until 2019. The 2018 United States Senate election in Virginia took place on November 6,2018,to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the Commonwealth of Virginia,concurrently with other elections to the U.S. Senate,elections to the United States House of Representatives,and various state and local elections. Incumbent Democratic Senator Tim Kaine,who had been his party's nominee for vice president two years earlier,was re-elected to a second term in office,winning this seat by the largest margin since 1988. This was the first election since 1994 that anyone had been re-elected to this seat.
The 2019 Virginia Senate election was held on November 5,2019,concurrently with the House election,to elect members to all 40 seats in the Senate of Virginia for the 161st Virginia General Assembly and the 162nd Virginia General Assembly. Primaries were held on June 11. The elections resulted in Democrats gaining 2 seats in the senate,and gaining control of both chambers of the General Assembly,marking the first time that Democrats held control of both legislative and executive branches in Virginia since 1993.
The 2024 United States Senate election in Virginia will be held on November 5,2024,to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the state of Virginia. Incumbent Democratic Senator Tim Kaine is running for re-election to a third term in office. Kaine was re-elected with 57.0% of the vote in 2018. Primary elections will take place on June 18,2024.
The 2021 United States state legislative elections were held on November 2,2021. Three legislative chambers in two states,New Jersey and Virginia,held regularly scheduled elections. These off-year elections coincided with other state and local elections,including gubernatorial elections in both states.
The 2023 Virginia House of Delegates election took place on November 7,2023,concurrently with elections for the Virginia Senate,to elect members of the 163rd Virginia General Assembly. All 100 delegates were elected to two-year terms from single-member districts. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20,2023. Democrats gained 3 seats,winning back control with a 51-49 majority after having previously lost it in 2021.

The 2023 Virginia's 4th congressional district special election was a special election to the U.S. House of Representatives that was held to fill Virginia's 4th congressional district for the remainder of the 118th United States Congress. The seat became vacant after incumbent Democrat Donald McEachin died on November 28,2022,of colorectal cancer. State Senator Jennifer McClellan was declared the victor shortly after the polls closed,winning in a landslide against her Republican opponent.
