Background and history

In May 2013, Something Clever announced the departure of their original lead vocalist, Michael Brennan, and soon began auditions for a replacement. On July 13, 2013, the band introduced Adam Nelson as their new lead singer, along with Colt Crevar as bassist, marking a significant lineup change. [3]

After spending much of the year searching for new bandmates and writing and recording new music with the new lineup, it was announced on November 20, 2013, Something Clever announced the release of "Freaks Like You," their first single featuring Nelson and Crevar, which officially debuted on December 3, 2013. This release signified the start of a new era for the band and was also the final recording to feature original rhythm guitarist Christopher St. Hilaire before his departure in May 2014. [4]

In early 2019 Something Clever began posting questionnaires online as to whether fans would like to hear newly recorded versions of their earlier hits like "Freaks Like You" as bonus tracks on their then-upcoming new EP. [5] On February 1, 2019, the band released part one of a two-EP series titled Moments: Red and Moments: Blue. The latter, released on March 1, 2019, ended up featuring a newly re-recorded version of "Freaks Like You" titled, "Freaks Like You 2.0." This updated version showcased the band's then-current lineup and production style, blending metalcore and emo influences. [6]
