"11 Days" is a song by the American rock band, Something Clever. It was officially released as a single on August 21, 2020 via Bunker Hill Records. 11 Days marked the band's final single and final release overall before going on indefinite hiatus later in 2020. [1]
In a August 2020 livestream with lead singer Adam Nelson and lead guitarist Kelly Flusk, the two stated "11 Days" was written and recorded within a 24 hour period a month prior in July, explaining how the still-ongoing COVID-19 pandemic expedited their studio time, and a time when artists were unable to tour or perform live concerts because of the COVID-19 lockdowns, they would be spending more time in the studio recording new content.
The song was produced and mixed by Jordan Mattacchione and Sam Ocheltree from the band Killakoi. During outtakes found on the band's social media profiles they wanted to emphasize the raw emotion and atmospheric dynamics to capture the song’s haunting themes in order to intentionally layer it with dark tones and shifting rhythms to reflect the instability described in the lyrics.
Singer Adam Nelson and guitarist Kelly Flusk co-wrote the song together, stating in an online livestream on Facebook the day the single released, the two stated track was conceived as a deeply personal expression of mental and emotional exhaustion drawing inspiration from struggles with insomnia, inner turmoil, and the psychological effects of sleep deprivation. The title references a period of sleeplessness and emotional deterioration, symbolizing a state of disconnection from the world, and referred to "11 Days" as a "farewell anthem for anyone who ever felt like they were losing themselves trying to stay awake and survive another day" and that "11 Days" was chosen as the name because that is the longest a human has stayed awake constantly without dying.
11 Days was the second release since the band had transitioned into a duo with Flusk and Nelson as the sole members, and is also marked the last Something Clever release before the band brokeup and entered an indefinite hiatus beginning in October 2020. [2] [3]
To promote the single due to lack of touring due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Something Clever began working with director Randy Roswell for scripting and shooting the single's official music video in late July. The band formally announced that the "11 Days" music video will premier on August 28, 2020 via their social media profiles.
