Background and recording

Recording sessions for Moments: Blue began in November 2017 when the band started writing and recording demos for new material to follow up their debut album Season of Light . In March 2018, bass player Colt Crevar unexpectedly announced his departure from the band, causing a temporary pause in production. Work resumed in mid-May 2018 after the band announced the addition of their new bassist, Lawrence “Lo” West. Shortly after West joined the lineup, on May 31, 2018, the band announced they had signed their first record deal with Bunker Hill Records, a label based in Charlotte, North Carolina. [2]

On January 14, 2019, the band revealed via social media that they would be releasing a pair of EPs titled Moments: Red and Moments: Blue. The first installment, Moments: Red, was released on February 1, 2019, followed by Moments: Blue on March 1, 2019. [1]

Singles

"Get With It", featuring Renee Phoenix from the band Fit for Rivals, was released as a single on March 1, 2019, coinciding with the EP’s release. [3] An official music video for the song premiered on September 20, 2019. It was directed by Justin Beasley and featured actor Rob Kellum, known as "Papa Stro Maestro". [1]

"Freaks Like You 2.0" was also released as a promotional single. It served as a reimagined version of their 2013 single "Freaks Like You", which marked the band's first release after lead singer Adam Nelson joined. The new version featured updated production for a more polished sound compared to the original release. [4]

Commercial performance

Although Moments: Blue and its predecessor Moments: Red found regional success and received airplay on satellite radio, the EP did not chart on major music rankings. However, the singles performed moderately well on music streaming platforms. [5]

Promotion

To support the releases of Moments: Red and Moments: Blue, Something Clever hosted an album release celebration at The Fillmore Underground in Charlotte, North Carolina, on March 30, 2019. The band continued to promote the EPs throughout 2019 by headlining a series of regional concerts under "The Moments Tour" banner. They also served as supporting acts for national artists including Nine Inch Nails, Asking Alexandria, I Prevail, and Red Sun Rising. [1]
