"Freedom of the Night" is a song by English singer and songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor. It was released on 18 October 2024, through Decca Records, as the lead single from her upcoming eighth studio album The Invisible Line. [1]

Background

Following the resurgence of her 2001 song "Murder on the Dancefloor", thanks to its appearance in the 2023 film Saltburn , [2] Ellis-Bextor signed a record deal with Universal Music Group. [3] Her first major-label single in 14 years, "Freedom of the Night", was released under Decca Records. On 20 October 2024, she performed the song live for the first time on the British dance competition programme, Strictly Come Dancing . [4]

Music video

The music video was directed by Sophie Muller and Theo Adams and filmed at London's Rivoli Ballroom. [5] It serves as a continuation to the music video for "Murder on the Dancefloor" (also directed by Muller) where Ellis-Bextor, described as a fierce "dance mom", is determined to see her daughter win at a competitive dance gala. Colin Stinton reprise his role from the "Murder on the Dancefloor" video as one of the judges in the competition. [6] The video premiered on Ellis-Bextor's YouTube channel on 25 October 2024.

In 1993, she received a BRIT Award for "Stay" by Shakespears Sister. She won another MTV Award in 1997 for "Don't Speak" by No Doubt. Muller is a longtime collaborator of Sade, Annie Lennox, Gwen Stefani, Kylie Minogue, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Garbage and Shakespears Sister.

Songs from the Kitchen Disco is the first greatest hits album by English singer-songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor, released on 13 November 2020 by EGBG's, although it was previously announced for 23 October. It features singles from all her studio albums: Read My Lips (2001), Shoot from the Hip (2003), Trip the Light Fantastic (2007), Make a Scene (2011), Wanderlust (2014) and Familia (2016), as well as a number of cover versions of songs by other artists. Songs from the Kitchen Disco serves as the follow-up to her previous release, the 2019 orchestral compilation album The Song Diaries.

The soundtrack to the 2023 film Saltburn, directed by Emerald Fennell, consists of a score composed by Anthony Willis, as well as an number of pop songs. Willis had previously scored Fennell's Promising Young Woman (2020) and also M3GAN (2022). Saltburn (Original Motion Picture Score) features 18 cues from his score and was released by Milan Records on the same date as its international release, 17 November 2023. The soundtrack album, Saltburn (Music from the Motion Picture), was released on 28 June 2024.
