Frédéric Tcheng is a French film director, screenwriter, and cinematographer. He is best known for his documentaries Dior and I , Halston , and Invisible Beauty. [1] [2] [3]
Tcheng was born and raised in Lyon, France. [4] After studying engineering in Paris, he moved to New York City where he obtained a Masters of Fine Arts from Columbia University's film school in 2007. [5] [6] His first foray into documentary was the 2008 documentary Valentino: The Last Emperor , which he co-produced and co-edited. [7]
In 2011, he was the writer and co-director of Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel , which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival. [8]
Tcheng's solo directorial debut, Dior and I , premiered at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival. [9] The acclaimed documentary focuses on Raf Simons' first haute couture collection for Dior. [2] Also in 2014, he served as a jury member at the Warsaw film festival and CPH:DOX. [10]
From 2018 to 2019, he served as a filmmaking mentor for Queer art, a non-profit arts organization that serves a diverse community of LGBTQ+ artists. [10] [11]
In 2019, he directed the documentary Halston for CNN Films and Amazon. The film reframes the story of the American designer Halston as a business thriller and premiered at Sundance Film Festival. [12]
Tcheng's latest film, Invisible Beauty, about model and activist Bethann Hardison, premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. [13] [14] Tcheng co-wrote and co-directed the film, along with Hardison. [15]
Tcheng also served as an editor on the second season of the Netflix series Making a Murderer , and a cinematographer on the documentary King Georges . [16]

Final Cut for Real ApS is a film production company based in Copenhagen, Denmark specializing in documentaries for the international market. The two Oscar-nominated groundbreaking documentaries The Act of Killing (2012) and The Look of Silence (2014) helped establish the company as a recognized provider of independent creative documentaries on the international stage. Her producing credits include the Sundance 2023 film 5 Seasons of Revolution, the Cannes Film Festival 2014 selection Silvered Water, the IDFA 2013 selection The Mulberry House, among others. She was the first Syrian to be a juror in Cannes Film Festival in 2014, when she was part of the first Documentary Film Award jury in the festival. Together with her partner Orwa Nyrabia, El Jeiroudi was also the first Syrian known to be invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2017. El Jeiroudi was also a co-founder of DOX BOX International Documentary Film Festival in Syria and DOX BOX e.V. non-profit association in Germany.

The film tells the story of the rise and fall of Roy Halston Frowick, one of America’s most prominent fashion designers. The film features commentary by Liza Minnelli, Marisa Berenson, Joel Schumacher, Naeem Khan, Pat Cleveland, Karen Bjornson and other former models known as The Halstonettes. Appearing in archival footage are Halston, Jacqueline Kennedy, Brooke Shields, Andy Warhol and members of his family. The film premiered to generally positive reviews at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2019. It was selected as the spotlight documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival, and had a limited theatrical release in May 2019, before its international release in June.
