GITEX GLOBAL or GITEX (abb. of Gulf Information Technology Exhibition, a.k.a. GITEX Technology Week) is a computer expo held annually in Dubai, United Arab Emirates at Dubai World Trade Center. The event underpins the rapid technology-driven transformations, investments and projects shaping the economies of the Middle East, Africa and Asia. [1]

History

The show was launched in 1981 as GITE and occupied Hall One of the Dubai World Trade Centre. With the launch of MacWorld at the 1988 show, GITEX (with the addition of 'X') expanded to two halls of the exhibition centre. For some years it has now filled the entire DWTC complex, and currently expanded with additional halls added to the complex, comprising 27 halls and two million feet of exhibition space. [2]

Running for over four decades, the GITEX brand name added the suffix ‘GLOBAL’ in 2022 to highlight that technology companies, startups, speakers and attendees from over 170 countries are represented. [3]

GITEX features a large-scale government presence, with hundreds of government entities from across the region, Ministers and public sector officials present the year’s major government digital initiatives, innovations and projects, and announce public and private sector tech partnerships. [4] [5]

GITEX GLOBAL includes seven multi-tech sector events, Ai Everything, North Star Dubai (region's biggest startup showcase), [6] Fintech Surge, Future Blockchain Summit, Marketing Mania, and two new events launching in 2022, Global DevSlam (congregating the coder-developer ecosystem) and X-VERSE (curated immersive Web 3.0 journey). GITEX Africa

In October 2022, GITEX GLOBAL announced to start a new annual event outside Asia and chose Africa. [9] GITEX Africa debuted in 2023 in Marrakech, Morocco, and the exhibition was held from May 31 to June 2. The expo was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Morocco Aziz Akhannouch. [10]

This broad term encompasses a wide array of technological advancements in financial services, including mobile banking, online lending platforms, digital payment systems, robo-advisors, and blockchain-based applications such as cryptocurrencies. Fintech companies include both startups and established technology and financial firms that aim to improve, complement, or replace traditional financial services.

The Dubai World Game Expo (DWGE) is a multigenre convention held annually in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in the month of November. The DWGE showcases game and app developers, game publishers, game distributors, retailers, and other businesses related to interactive entertainment. The DWGE is the largest event for video games and digital entertainment industry in the Middle East & North African (MENA) region. The Expo predates the more well-known "Comic Con" event which had its first Middle East Film and Comic Con in 2012. The DWGE is held in order to introduce a wide variety of video games, online games, mobile games, edutainment & infotainment software, game related hardware, and next-generation platforms to the public and potential investors. Special events, game competition, presentation, and workshops will also be held during the show.

AstroLabs is a Dubai-based digital capability building company with offices in Riyadh. It started as Google for Startups (GFS) co-working space member of the GFS Tech Hub Network, as of 2024 it is no longer a member of GFS Tech Hub Network.

Financial technology is an industry composed of companies that use technology to offer financial services. These companies operate in insurance, asset management and payment, and numerous other industries. FinTech has emerged as a relatively new industry in India in the past few years. The Indian market has witnessed massive investments in various sectors adopting FinTech, which has been driven partly by the robust and effective government reforms that are pushing the country towards a digital economy. It has also been aided by the growing internet and smartphone penetration, leading to the adoption of digital technologies and the rise of FinTech in the country

FinTech Awards are several award ceremonies, most of them unrelated, which are held worldwide to recognize excellence in financial technology as assessed by either a public vote or panels of judges. There are typically many categories, winners and prizes. Hundreds of companies, including several fintech startups, participate as candidates.

The Big 5 is the largest construction event in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. It is held annually in Dubai in late November and attracts in excess of 67,000 construction professionals.

Nium is a Singapore-headquartered cross-border payments company. Initially founded by Prajit Nanu and Michael Bermingham, and launched as a consumer-remittance platform Instarem in 2014. In 2016, the company introduced its B2B payments platform and rebranded as Nium in 2019, subsequently elevating Pratik Gandhi to co-founder in 2021. However, Gandhi left Nium in October 2023, around the time Nium's Chief Product Officer also left the company and Nium announced a layoff of over 10% of its global staff.

Wahed is an American financial technology and services company based in New York City, New York. In July 2019, the company launched the first exchange-traded fund in the United States that was compliant with Sharia law. Wahed operates in 130 countries and has offices in Washington D.C, New York, London and Dubai. According to Bloomberg, it has a valuation of $300 million.

The India Mobile Congress (IMC) is a digital technologies' forum in Asia consisting of a three-day international conference and a technology exhibition. The event is envisioned to be the "leading platform for India's start-up and technology ecosystem." Within the telecommunications and technology industry, IMC is claimed to be the "largest digital technology forum in Asia." The event is organized jointly by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of the Government of India. The forum aims to be a platform for industry, businesses, regulators and policymakers to discuss and deliberate on critical issues affecting the growth of the telecom and technology sector. In its first two iterations, the IMC focused on transformative 5G technology and most of the booths showcased various use-cases and scenarios where 5G would play an important role; the exhibitors included service providers, OEMs and infrastructure providers.

Nizar Ben Néji is a Tunisian politician, and former minister of communication technologies, serving at this position from 2021 to 2024. He is a Tunisian computer engineer and a doctor in information and communication technologies. Dr. Nizar Ben Neji was appointed in charge of the ministry of communication technologies of Tunisia on August 2nd 2021 and then confirmed later at this position on October 11th 2021 as a member of the government led by prime minister Najla Bouden then prime minister Ahmed Hachani.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Programme for People and Planet</span> Exposition programme in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The Programme for People and Planet is a programme of events that was inaugurated at Expo 2020 Dubai and took place throughout a six-month period between October 2021 and March 2022. It was endorsed and adopted by the Cabinet of the United Arab Emirates in April 2021 and has received support from various United Nations agencies and offices. The Programme focused on areas such as social development, culture, economics, environmental issues, gender rights, and futurist topics, among others.

Expand North Star, previously known as GITEX Future Stars, is an annual technology startup event in Dubai at the Dubai World Trade Center. Strategically a part of GITEX GLOBAL, North Star showcases startups in front of tech industry professionals from more than 100 countries worldwide.

GITEX ASIA is an upcoming technology, AI and startup event scheduled to debut from April 23–25, 2025, at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. It is a part of GITEX's—the world's largest technology and startup exhibition—expansion into the Asian region. GITEX ASIA aimes to connect the Asian market with a global network of tech companies, SMEs, unicorn founders, investors, AI pioneers, government leaders, policymakers, R&D institutions, and academia, focusing on AI, telecom, cloud, data centres, cybersecurity, and fintech.
