Gabriela Teissier Zavala (born January 18) is a journalist, news anchor and radio talk show host. [1] She is the anchor for the early morning news formerly known as A Primera Hora on Univision's Los Angeles station KMEX-DT, [2] and hosting Uforia Audio Network's morning radio show, Tu Voz En Los Angeles. [3] and is known for her environmental issue reports. [4]

Early life

Teissier was born and raised in Mexico City. She attended the German school Colegio Aleman Alexander Von Humboldt in Mexico City and then graduated from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City.

Growing up she developed a passion and interest in environmental journalism being influenced by her father, Ernesto Julio Teissier, who was a prominent political analyst in Mexico. [5]

Teissier is the sister of Adriana Teissier Zavala, who is currently the Federal Deputy for the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico.[ citation needed ]

Career

Music

As a child, Teissier toured doing background vocals for singers such as Luis Miguel, [6] Cristian Castro, José José and Guadalupe Pineda. [7] She also did vocals as Terk for Phil Collins's single titled "Rompiendo el Campamento" that featured in the Spanish version of the 1999 Tarzan soundtrack. [8]

Television

In college, she acted in television commercials and played the role of "Terk" in Spanish in the Disney movie Tarzan , Acapulco H.E.A.T. and Cinemamotion. [1] [9]

Her first role in news media was an anchor woman for MVS TV Noticias in Telerey, Mexico She came to the United States in the late 1990s when she was offered a job to anchor Edicion Especial Midday show on Telemundo Network. [1] After Telemundo, worked for Univision [10] as anchor of their midday show Escandalo TV [ citation needed ] for the launch of Unimas, formerly known as Telefutura network. She returned to California in 2003 and since then been the main anchor of the early morning news show, A Primera Hora on Univision's Los Angeles station KMEX-DT, formerly known as Primera Edicion. Radio

Teissier is also one of the two morning radio show hosts of "Tu Voz En Los Angeles" on Univision's Los Angeles flagship talk radio station, KTNQ 1020 AM. [11]

Achievements

She received "Best News Anchor" award from the Los Angeles Press Club and has won six local Emmy Awards including Telly awards for her anchoring, reporting, producing and writing. [4]

Teissier received the "Excellence in Broadcast Journalism Impact Award" from the National Hispanic Media Coalition [12] and has been recognized by the California State Senate and the City of Los Angeles for her significant contributions to the community through her stories on environmental, social and education issues. [4]

In 2015, Teissier became an alumna of Metcalf Institute’s "Change and the News Science Seminar: Planning for Rising Seas and Extreme Weather." [5]

In 2016, Teissier was awarded the Ohtli Award [ citation needed ] administered by the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs. [13]

Personal life

Teissier resides in Los Angeles with her two sons.

Philanthropy

Teissier is currently on the board of directors for ACT Today, a non-profit organization for Autism, [12] [14] and on the board of trustees of the SAG-AFTRA; she previously served as a board member of the American Heart Association.

In 2020, she moderated the KPFK live stream program called “Strength Thru Unity”: Black & Brown Lives Sowing the Seed of Change to foster, inspire, and help develop collaborations between Latinos and African Americans for social justice [12] [15] and panelists included Dolores Huerta.

In 2023, Teissier who is a German-speaking anchor spoke to German journalists at the RIAS Berlin Commission event in Los Angeles about her work at KMEX-DT, learning German at school and the thriving Hispanic community in California and the issues they are also facing. [12] [16]

KTNQ is a radio station licensed to Los Angeles, California, with a Spanish talk format. It is owned by Latino Media Network; under a local marketing agreement, it was programmed by former owner TelevisaUnivision's Uforia Audio Network until 2024. From its original licensing on March 13, 1925 until 1955 it was called KFVD. The transmitter is located in the City of Industry. The station was originally restricted in its broadcast hours, signing off at local sunset to protect 1020 KDKA Pittsburgh from nighttime sky wave interference. Later, the FCC allowed geographically spread daytime stations to operate at night with a directional pattern away from the previously protected station. 1020 kHz in Los Angeles was then allowed to operate as a 24 hour station.

En La Mañana is a Puerto Rican breakfast television show that airs on TeleOnce. The show is a revival of the original breakfast show called Tu Mañana that aired on TeleOnce from 1991 to 2002 and in Univision Puerto Rico television network from 2002 to 2014. The original version of the show debuted on March 11, 1991, and was aired on weekday mornings. On October 14, 2014, the show was cancelled as part of a restructuring of Univision Puerto Rico's operations that included the closure of its news department. With the sale of WLII-DT from Univision to Liberman Media Group the new owners have announced they intend to revive Tu Mañana in 2023. The show's revival was officially announced on October 17, 2023, with a premiere date set for October 30, 2023. Noticias Telemundo is the flagship daily evening television news program of Noticias Telemundo, the news division of the American Spanish language broadcast television network Telemundo. The program is produced out of the news division's facilities in the Miami suburb of Hialeah, Florida.

Lindsay Casinelli is a Venezuelan journalist. Casinelli is currently the host of the weekly sports show República Deportiva and co-host of Contacto Deportivo weeknights on Univision.
