Gaikhangam Gangmei (born 12 November 1950) is an Indian politician and member of Congress Working Committee. [1] He served as first Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur [2] from 2012-2017 and also as MPCC president. [3] [4] [5]
Gangmei was born in Gaidimjang,Khoupum valley in the Rongmei Naga family of Khangsillung and Lansillung. [6] [7] The youngest of eight siblings,Gangmei at the age of 12 adopted Christianity along with his mother. [6]
Siddaramaiah,also referred to by his nickname Siddu,is an Indian politician who is serving as the 22nd Chief Minister of Karnataka from 20 May 2023. He also held that position previously from 2013 to 2018,being only the second person to hold that office for a full five-year term. He belongs to the Indian National Congress and is presently the leader of the Congress Legislative Party. He represented the Varuna Assembly constituency from 2023,previously from 2008 to 2018,Badami Assembly constituency from 2018 to 2023,and Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency from 2004 to 2007,1994 to 1999,and from 1983 to 1989 in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on two occasions,from 2019 to 2023 and from 2009 to 2013. Siddaramaiah was a member of various Janata Parivar factions for several years.
Although India is a parliamentary democracy,the country's politics has become dynastic or with high level of nepotism,possibly due to the absence of party organizations,independent civil-society associations which mobilize support for a party,or centralized financing of elections. The dynastic phenomenon is present at the national,state,regional,and district level. Nongthombam Biren Singh is an Indian politician,former footballer and journalist who is currently serving as the 12th Chief Minister of Manipur since 2017,in addition to representing the Heingang Assembly constituency in the Manipur Legislative Assembly since 2002. The Maha Vikas Aghadi,is a state-level political alliance of centre to centre-left political parties in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is one of the two major political alliances in Maharashtra. He was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Nungba in the 2022 Manipur Legislative Assembly election,defeating the six-times MLA and Congress Working Committee member Gaikhangam. On 11 April 2022,he was elected chairman of the Hill Area committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
