Career
Bates was a mathematics and home economics teacher in Anne Arundel County from 1968 to 1973. She then served as an office manager for H&R Block from 1976 to 1980. In 1980,she held a position as a tax supervisor for Mark Buckley,C.P.A. From 1983 to 1984 she was a manager for the Records and Tax Department of the Maryland Farm Bureau. Since 1984,she has been a sole proprietor as a Certified Public Accountant. She served as an assistant to the Howard County Executive from 1991 to 1998 and was Chief of Staff for Delegate Donald E. Murphy in District 12A from 1999 until 2002.
Bates has been an active member of different organizations such as the Howard County Republican Club,the Maryland Federation of Republican Women,the Howard County Republican Central Committee (serving as Treasurer from 1980 until 1984),the Howard County Chamber of Commerce,the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants,and Howard County Republican Women,serving as president since 2001.
As a member of the Maryland General Assembly,Bates served on the Appropriations Committee,the Joint Committee on Children,Youth,and Families,and the Special Joint Committee on Pensions.
She was a board member of the Howard County Chapter of the American Red Cross from 1996 until 1999. She has served with the Christian Jail Ministry since 1997 and the Howard County Farm Bureau since 1998. She has been the Treasurer of the Howard County Tourism Council since 2004. She is a member of the Therapeutic Horsemanship Association and received the Life Achievement Award from the Howard County Republican Central Committee in 1990.
In 2007,Bates sponsored a bill that would have defined marriage as between one man and one woman in the state of Maryland,barring same-sex marriage in the state. The bill was voted down in the Judiciary Committee. [7]

John A. Giannetti Jr. is an American politician and former attorney from Maryland. As a Democrat, Giannetti was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 1998 for District 13B and served from 1999 to 2003. In 2002 he was elected into the State Senate for District 21, which covers parts of Anne Arundel County and Prince George's County. He was defeated in the 2006 Democratic primary and general elections by former member of the Maryland House of Delegates and U.S. Ambassador to Romania James Rosapepe.

Warren E. Miller was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates. Miller represented District 9A, which includes parts of Howard and Carroll counties. Miller was appointed by Governor Bob Ehrlich on March 7, 2003 to replace Robert L. Flanagan, who resigned from the Maryland House of Delegates on February 28, 2003, to become the Maryland Secretary of Transportation. On November 30, 2020, Miller announced his intent to resign at the end of 2020.
Martha S. Klima was first elected in 1982 to represent District 9, which covered a portion of Baltimore County, Maryland, USA. She unsuccessfully ran for the State Senate in 2002. She was defeated by Jim Brochin.
Herbert H. McMillan is a Republican former member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing District 30 in Anne Arundel County, MD from 2003 to 2007 and from 2011 to 2019. He served alongside Democrat Michael E. Busch and Republican Ron George. In 2006 he challenged District 30 Senator John Astle, a Democrat, who defeated him 53 percent to 47 percent. In 2022, McMillan unsuccessfully ran for the Republican nomination for Anne Arundel County executive.
Mary Ann Lisanti is an American politician and a member of the Democratic Party, who represented District 34A in the Maryland House of Delegates. Previously she represented district F on the Harford County Council, representing Havre de Grace, Abingdon, Belcamp/Riverside and Aberdeen Proving Ground. In January 2014 Lisanti filed to run for the Maryland House of Delegates and to not seek a 3rd term on the County Council. In early March 2019, the House of Delegates unanimously censured Lisanti for a racial slur directed at the African-American majority Prince George's County, with her own county's Democratic Party calling for her resignation.
Diana M. Fennell is an American politician who represents District 47A in the Maryland House of Delegates. She previously served as the mayor of Colmar Manor, Maryland from 2000 to 2010 and as a member of the Colmar Manor town council from 1995 to 2000.

Trent M. Kittleman is an American politician. She was a Republican member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 2015 to 2023. She was the wife of State Senator Robert H. Kittleman until his death in 2004, and unsuccessfully ran alongside him for County Council in 1978. She is the stepmother of Allan H. Kittleman, former state senator and Howard County executive. She lost her 2022 re-election bid.
