Galton Blackiston is an English chef, born in Norfolk. The restaurant of his hotel, Morston Hall, Holt in Morston, is Michelin starred and has 4 AA Rosettes. It is on the north Norfolk coast, two miles from Blakeney. His unusual first name is a tribute to his relative Sir Francis Galton.[ citation needed ]

Blackiston has never trained formally as a chef. After leaving school at 16 to play cricket, he was encouraged by his mother to set up a market stall selling homemade baked goods, "Galton's Goodies". His first job in a restaurant was at John Tovey's Miller Howe country hotel in Windermere, the Lake District. [1]

In 2013, Blackiston started No 1 Cromer, a fish and chip shop in Cromer. [1] [2] [3]

Television

Blackiston represented the Midlands and East of England in the BBC's Great British Menu, [4] knocking out celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson to gain a place in the final. [5] In 2007, he appeared on the television programme Food Poker . [6]

Personal life

Blackiston supports Norwich City F.C. [7]

Robert Thompson is a British chef. He was in 2007 the youngest British chef to be awarded a Michelin star in his own right. He achieved this at Winteringham Fields, Lincolnshire before again earning a star at The Hambrough restaurant in Ventnor, on the Isle of Wight. Thompson left the Hambrough in 2013 and in 2014 began working at the George Hotel in nearby Yarmouth. In 2015, Thompson opened his first solo concept restaurant called Thompson's on the Isle of Wight in the town Newport.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Morston Hall</span> Country house hotel

Morston Hall in the parish of Morston near Holt, Norfolk, is a building of historical significance. The original house was built in about 1640 and cellars and chimneys from it survive. It was substantially altered in the 18th century and a wing was added in the 19th century. It was owned by the Townshend viscounts from Raynham Hall from the 17th century until 1911 and during this time it was tenanted by various notable people. Today it is a hotel. It also caters for special events particularly weddings.
