GameSoundCon is a conference and seminar on video game music and video game sound design. GameSoundCon began as a multi-city conference providing seminars occurring 2-4 times per year in various cities in the US on creating music and sound effects for videogames. Speakers and panelists from throughout the industry [1] cover topics ranging from composing game music to game sound design and the business of game sound.
The first GameSoundCon was held in Los Angeles at the Hyatt Regency Century City Century Place in September 2009, [2] primarily designed for composers, sound designers and audio engineers with little or no experience in games, but experience in traditional media such as music/TV/film.
In the 2009 GameSoundCon conferences, two parallel content tracks were given. In the first track, called "Main Game Audio Sessions," tutorials and panel sessions included: Composing Game Music, Game Audio Tech 1& 2, Game Sound Design as well as roundtables on business issues, casual game music and licensing. In the second track, staff from MTV's Harmonix Music Systems gave tutorials on how to create content for the ill-fated Rock Band Network.
In 2011, hands-on training sessions in FMOD were added, taught by Stephan Schutze. In 2013,Wwise sessions were added as well.
In 2013, GameSoundCon went to a once-per-year format, settling in Los Angeles. At the same time, GameSoundCon expanded its format, adding a second series of session tracks for higher-end talks for those with significant experience in games [3]
In 2016, it expanded again, adding additional session tracks for Virtual Reality audio and game audio research [4]
Each year, GameSoundCon publishes the GameSoundCon Industry Survey which covers topics such as compensation for game composers, sound designers and other game audio roles; work and environment; contract terms, rights, bonuses, royalties; use of live musicians and middleware; and education level. In 2016 The GameSoundCon Industry Survey did a deeper analysis on gender-based differences in salaries for game composers and sound designers . The study suggested a "gender pay gap" equivalent of approximately 2 years of experience. [6]
A similar GameSoundCon study showed a large increase in the demand for composers and audio directors virtually coincident with the opening of the Apple "app store" and the release of Facebook's developer program [7]
GameSoundCon, through its partnership with the Game Audio Network Guild, provides complimentary passes to its conference through the G.A.N.G. Scholars Program. [8] [9] Student applications require the applicant to submit essays, recommendations from professors and GPA

Jack Wall is an American video game music composer. He has worked on video game music for over 20 games including the Myst franchise, Splinter Cell, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, and Call of Duty. Wall earned a degree in civil engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and, after a brief stint working in civil engineering, transitioned into music production. He worked with musicians such as John Cale, David Byrne, and Patti Smith, and, after performing increasingly complex production and sound engineering tasks, moved into music composition in 1995.

Halo 3 Original Soundtrack is the official soundtrack to Bungie's first-person shooter video game Halo 3. Garry Schyman is an American film, television, and video game music composer. He graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in music composition in 1978, and began work in the television industry, writing music for such television series as Magnum, P.I. and The A-Team. By 1986, he was composing for movies such as Judgement and Hit List. At the request of a friend in 1993, he composed the music for the video game Voyeur, but after creating the music for two more games he left the industry, citing the low budgets and poor quality of video game music at the time. He continued to compose for film and television, only to return to video games for 2005's Destroy All Humans!. Finding that in his absence the quality and perceived importance of video game music had risen substantially, he has since composed for several games, writing the scores to BioShock and Dante's Inferno among others. He still composes for film however, his latest being Brush with Danger directed by young Indonesian director Livi Zheng. He has won numerous awards for his video game scores, including several "soundtrack of the year" awards. During his career, he has worked on over 25 television shows, 10 films, and 13 video games.
Laurie Robinson is an American music producer, composer, and solo artist active in the film, television, video games industries as well as the concert world. She is creative director at the Collective Music & Media Group, a production company which is known for large music installations. She is also known for her compositions on the multi-award winning score of the video game Advent Rising with Tommy Tallarico and Emmanuel Fratianni.
Penka Kouneva is a Bulgarian-American composer, orchestrator and soundtrack producer. In 1999, she began working in film and television and in 2009 began to score for videogames. Her music is a blend of Bulgarian influences, classical training, rock sensibility, and modern film and game soundtracks.
Gordy Haab is an American film, video game and television composer based in Los Angeles, California. His work has been featured in works associated with franchises including Star Wars Battlefront II, for which he won Video Game Score of the Year from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. Haab is also known for his work on Microsoft's Halo Wars 2, for which he was nominated for a 2017 HMMA award. His score for Electronic Arts' Star Wars: Battlefront, won three awards at the 2016 GDC G.A.N.G. Awards: Music of the Year, Best Interactive Score, and Best Instrumental Score. Haab was also nominated for a BAFTA Games Awards for his work on Star Wars: Battlefront.
Woodrow Wilson Jackson III is an American composer and session musician. He is best known for his work with Rockstar Games, composing scores for its video games Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, Grand Theft Auto V, and Red Dead Redemption 2. Born in Oil City, Pennsylvania, Jackson studied at Virginia State University for one year, taking harmonica lessons before dropping out and playing guitar in a band. He moved to Los Angeles in 1992, and eventually joined the band Friends of Dean Martinez. He later became a session musician, working on the soundtracks of films like Ocean's Twelve (2004) and The Devil Wears Prada (2006). Since 2009, he has owned and operated Electro-Vox Recording Studios, where he has recorded two original albums and much of his composing work. He is an avid collector of vintage instruments.

Wilbert Roget II is an American composer known for his work on video game music, particularly Mortal Kombat 11 (2019), Call of Duty: WWII (2017), Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, (2014) and Helldivers 2 (2024). His scores have won multiple awards and nominations from the Game Audio Network Guild and the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences.
The music of the Dead Space media franchise, created by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts around a series of survival horror video games, was mainly composed by Jason Graves. Graves composed the music for all mainline entries in the series and the majority of spin-off titles. Other composers have been involved in the series; Grave's recurring collaborator Rod Abernethy acted as an early advisor for the titular first game, James Hannigan co-composed the score for Dead Space 3, while the 2023 remake of the first game combined original music with contributions by Trevor Gureckis. Scores for the movies Dead Space: Downfall and Dead Space: Aftermath were respectively composed were Seth Podowitz and Christopher Tin.
