Gas Monkey Bar N' Grill is an American restaurant and live music bar in Dallas, Texas started by entrepreneur Richard Rawlings, who is also the star of Discovery Channel reality television show Fast N' Loud .

History

Beginnings (2013)

In September 2013, Rawlings opened Gas Monkey Bar N' Grill, a 1,800 m2 (19,000 sq ft) live music bar and restaurant. [2] With a capacity of 1200 people, [1] the facility is located at the former Firewater Bar and Grill [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] in Northwest Dallas. [8] Alex Mendonsa, who ran the House of Blues Las Vegas was hired as the general manager, [9] while David Hollister of Yucatán Taco Stand and H2 Gourmet Burger Company was employed to manage culinary duties. [2] [10] [11] On September 21, 2013, two days before the grand opening, American rock band Old ’97s performed the first live show at the venue. [12] [13]

Airport location (2014)

A second Gas Monkey Bar N' Grill location was opened in International Terminal D at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in March 2014. [14] [15] [16] The chief executive has indicated a desire to open a third Texas location somewhere other than the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. [17] [18]

In October 2014, Rawlings and Mendonsa, talent buyer Peter Ore (former Vice President of Talent Live Nation Denver) along with brothers Dan and Mike Flaherty [19] of United Commercial Realty [1] opened Gas Monkey Live at the former Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill [20] in Northwest Dallas. [21]

Gas Monkey Energy and Key West expansion (2016)

In March 2016, [22] the company opened its third Gas Monkey Bar N’ Grill location in Key West, Florida. [23] [24] [25] [26] On April 8, 2016, the Supersuckers performed at the venue for its grand opening. [27] In May 2016, Gas Monkey Energy, a newly created energy drink manufacturer, was added as a division of the Gas Monkey empire. [28]

Richard Rawlings’ Garage (2016–2019)

In September 2016, [29] the very first Richard Rawlings’ Garage, a new restaurant "designed to attract local residents" and be a "local hangout", was opened in Harker Heights, Texas at the former location of Twin Peaks [30] although that location closed for business in March 2019. [31] In 2017, another location was announced at Foxwoods Resort Casino but is not currently open. [32] [33] [34] [35]

Closure of Gas Monkey Key West, Gas Monkey Live and expansion of Gas Monkey Bar N' Grill (2020-2021)

Some time between October 2018 and May 2020, Gas Monkey Key West closed. [36] [37] In May 2020, Gas Monkey Live closed. Gas Monkey Bar N' Grill has begun renovating their stage in order to expand venue capacity. [38]


Amplifed Live

On September 24 2021 it was announced that Gas Monkey Bar and Grill would be rebranded as Amplifed Live. Richard Rawlings would still own the trademark for Gas Monkey but would no longer be involved with Amplified Live. [39]

Misfit Garage is a Discovery Channel reality-television show spun off from Fast N' Loud. It features two of the mechanics fired from that show's Dallas, Texas-based Gas Monkey Garage, Tom Smith and Jordan Butler, as well as Thomas Weeks and Scot McMillan, who together start a new company, Fired Up Garage. The series, which premiered October 13, 2014, is produced by Pilgrim Studios, with Craig Piligian, Richard Rawlings and Eddie Rohwedder as executive producers, and Craig Coffman additionally serving as executive producer for the Discovery Channel.

Season 1 of Fast N' Loud started on June 6, 2012, and ended on December 8, 2012, for a total of 14 episodes. Season 1 was filmed on location on Reeder Road in Dallas, Texas, in a shop building rented from Phipps Auto, which was also featured in the show. The Gas Monkey Garage crew worked in the back shop, while Rawlings brought Corvettes, Cadillacs, and other cars that were going to be "quick flips" to Dewaine Phipps to get them running again. Gas Monkey Garage also had an ongoing business relationship with Sue Martin, a successful Taiwanese immigrant, at ASM Auto Upholstery, a business that was literally within car-pushing distance of their shop. KC Mathieu, a long-time friend of Kaufman's and owner of KC's Paint Shop, is part of the regular GMG crew and the painter for Gas Monkey Garage. Another heavily featured member of the Gas Monkey Garage crew during Season 1 was Scot McMillan Jr., of Scot Rods Garage, who left at the end of Season 1 to work at his own shop. During Season 1, Rawlings also hired an office assistant named Christie Brimberry, who makes repeated appearances on the show. The final two episodes of the season are not available for streaming on Discovery+.
