Gavin Brady

Gavin Brady (born 1 November 1973 in Timaru [1] [2] ) is a New Zealand sailor who has competed in the Summer Olympics and multiple America's Cups.

After sailing the sponsor boat for New Zealand Challenge at the 1992 Louis Vuitton Cup, Brady was the tactician for Tag Heuer Challenge at the 1995 Louis Vuitton Cup. [3] He then sailed the 1997–98 Whitbread Round the World Race as the helmsman on Chessie Racing. [4] [5]

Brady was third at the 1999 ISAF Open Match Racing World Championship. He then joined AmericaOne for the 2000 Louis Vuitton Cup. In 1999 he was helming inshore races in the winning Dutch |Champagne Mumm Admiral's Cup Team.

Alongside Jamie Gale, Brady competed at the 2000 Star World Championships and finished 7th. Gale and Brady then sailed for New Zealand at the 2000 Summer Olympics. They placed ninth in the Star class. He competed in the 2001 Star World Championships with George Iverson and the pair finished second. He then competed in his second Round the World Race, sailing on Team SEB during the 2001–02 Volvo Ocean Race.

Brady sailed for Luna Rossa Challenge at the 2003 Louis Vuitton Cup. Brady was the tactician for Oracle Racing at the 2007 Louis Vuitton Cup. [6] In 2009 he sailed for the Greek Challenge at the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series before returning to Oracle for the Louis Vuitton Trophy Nice Côte d’Azur. In 2010 he sailed in the Louis Vuitton Trophy Auckland and Louis Vuitton Trophy La Maddalena for Mascalzone Latino. [7] [8]

He is also a four-time winner of the Congressional Cup.

The 2007 Louis Vuitton Cup held in Valencia, Spain, from April 16 to June 6 was the event used to select the challenger for the 2007 America's Cup. Eleven potential challengers competed in the competition which consisted of two round robins, two semi-finals and a final. The winner was Emirates Team New Zealand, who challenged the defender Alinghi in June 2007 for the America's Cup.

John Cutler is a competitive sailor for New Zealand who won a bronze medal in the Finn Class at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. He was also selected for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and was a sailing coach for the New Zealand team at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Cutler has subsequently competed for a number of different syndicates in the America's Cup. He was born in Manchester, England.

The 6th Louis Vuitton Cup was held in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2003. The winner, Alinghi, went on to challenge for and win the 2003 America's Cup.

The 5th Louis Vuitton Cup was held in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2000. The winner, Prada Challenge, went on to challenge for the 2000 America's Cup. It was the first time in the competition's history that there would not be an American challenger or defender.

The Louis Vuitton Trophy La Maddalena was the third in a scheduled series of regattas that compete for the Louis Vuitton Trophy. The regatta occurred in La Maddalena between 22 May - 6 June 2010. The Louis Vuitton Trophy format uses existing International America's Cup Class yachts loaned to the regatta by various America's Cup racing syndicates, keeping costs relatively low for the competing teams.
