Dan Slater

Dan Slater (born 9 April 1976) is a New Zealand sailor. [1] He is a member of Wakatere Boating Club in North Shore City. At the 2000 Summer Olympics he competed in the mixed skiff with Nathan Handley, finishing in 8th place. [2] At the 2008 Summer Olympics, he competed in the men's finn class finishing 12th. [2] He competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Men's Finn class. He was successful in winning the third race which the commentator remarked was "one of the races of his life".

Slater was involved as a backup Strategist/Tactician for Team New Zealand during the 2003 America's Cup. [3] [4] In 2009 Slater competed in the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series as part of the Greek Challenge. [5]

Dan Lovrović is a Croatian sailor, who specialized in the Star and Finn classes. He achieved his best results in the Star class, by finishing twelfth at the 2012 Star World Championships in Hyères, France, along with his older brother Marin.

The men's eight (M8+) competition at the 1984 Summer Olympics took place at Lake Casitas in Ventura County, California, United States. It was held from 31 July to 5 August. There were 7 boats from 7 nations, with each nation limited to a single boat in the event. New Zealand had won the last two world championships, and the other strong team, East Germany, was absent from the event due to the Eastern Bloc boycott. This made New Zealand the strong favourite. But the final was won by Canada, with the USA and Australia the other medallists, and New Zealand coming a disappointing fourth.

Johann "Hans" Spitzauer is an Austrian former sailor, who specialized in both Finn and Star classes. He was named the country's top Finn sailor in the first three editions of his Olympic career and came closest to the medal haul in Atlanta 1996, finishing in fourth place. After missing out his Sydney 2000 bid, he moved into the Star class and eventually partnered with Andreas Hanakamp to compete at his fourth Olympics in Athens 2004 and with Christian Nehammer at his fifth in Beijing 2008. Outside the Games, Spitzauer was deemed one of the world's most successful Finn sailors in the early to mid-1990s, receiving a complete set of medals with one in each color at the Finn Gold Cup and the Finn European Championships, respectively.
