Jason Saunders

Jason Saunders (born 22 November 1990) is a New Zealand sailor.

Saunders was born in 1990 in Tauranga [1] and received his education at Tauranga Boys' College that he attended with fellow Olympic sailors Sam Meech (born 1991) and Peter Burling (born 1991) at the same time. [2]

Saunders competed in the 470 class at the 2012 Summer Olympics, with Paul Snow-Hansen. [3] The team finished 5th. [3]

At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Saunders competed alongside Gemma Jones in the Nacra 17 event, finishing in 4th. [3] [4] Previously the team had finished 4th at the 2015 Nacra 17 World Championships, and later finished in 4th place at the 2017 Nacra 17 World Championships. [3] He now competed in the Nacra 17 event with Olivia Mackay. [5]

The Nacra 17 is a performance catamaran used for sailing. It was designed in 2011, went into production in 2012 and has been the focus of multihull sailing at the Olympic Games since its conception.

Paul Snow-Hansen is a New Zealand sailor. In 2016, he sailed in the 470 World Championships in San Isidro, Buenos Aires where he won a silver medal with Daniel Willcox.

Hamish Pepper is a New Zealand sailor. He competed at the 1996, 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics.

Tara Pacheco van Rijnsoever is a Spanish sports sailor. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she competed in the Women's 470 class with Berta Betanzos. At the 2016 Olympics, she and Fernando Echavarri competed in the Nacra 17 class.

Luke Ramsay is a Canadian sailor, who specialized in two-person dinghy (470) and mixed multihull classes. He represented Canada, along with his partner and Olympic veteran Mike Leigh, at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and has also been training throughout his sailing career for the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club under his personal coach Ian Andrews. As of June 2015, Ramsay is ranked among the top 100 sailors in the world for the two-person dinghy class, and sixteenth for the mixed multihull class.

Samuel Albrecht is a Brazilian sailor who specializes in both two-person dinghy (470) and mixed multihull classes. He has been selected to compete for the Brazilian sailing team at the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing seventeenth along with his partner Fabio Pillar in the 470 regatta. After missing out the Olympic selection in 2012, Albrecht decided to turn his attention and eventually teamed up with Olympic bronze medalist Isabel Swan on the newly instated Nacra 17 catamaran for a chance to compete at his possible second Games in Rio de Janeiro. As of April 2015, Albrecht is ranked forty-fourth in the world for the mixed multihull class by the International Sailing Federation.

This article details the qualifying phase for sailing at the 2020 Summer Olympics. 350 quota places for the Games are entitled to the sailors coming from their respective NOCs, based on the results at designated regattas supervised by World Sailing. Host nation Japan has been guaranteed one quota place in each of the ten classes.

Australia is expected to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games have been postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Australia is one of only five countries to have sent athletes to every Summer Olympics of the modern era, alongside Great Britain, France, Greece, and Switzerland.
