James William Dallinger (born 30 September 1985) is a New Zealand rower. He was a member of the World Champion under-23 coxed four in 2006, and the world champion senior coxless four in 2007. He has been selected for the New Zealand coxless four to compete at the Beijing Olympics. [2] [3]
Dallinger was born in Hora Hora, Cambridge, New Zealand and attended St Paul's Collegiate School in nearby Hamilton. [4] He started rowing with the school club in 2000, where he was coached by three-time Olympian Ian Wright (rower).
In 2002 and 2003 Dallinger was part of the U19 Eight that won the Maadi Cup – the first two wins in the school's history. [5]
In 2006 Dallinger was selected as bowman in the New Zealand coxed four, along with Steven Cottle, Paul Gerritsen, Dane Boswell and cox Daniel Quigley. They won gold at the FISA Under 23 World Championships also setting a new world-record time of 6.03 in Hazelwinkel, Belgium [6] [7] and Bronze at the World Championships in Eton, UK. [8]
In 2007 he made the NZ coxless four in the number two position with fellow crew members Hamish Bond, Eric Murray and Carl Meyer under coach Chris Nillsen. The team won Gold at the 2007 World Championships in Munich, Germany [9] [10] thus qualifying them for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
In 2008 competing in the international regattas didn't go so well for Dallinger and his crew, getting 6th in Lucerne, Switzerland and 5th Poznan, Poland, and a gutting 7th in the Olympics after running through the heats being one of the 8 crew with less than 0.7 sec parting them.[ citation needed ]
After the Games, Dallinger joined the Piha Surf Boat Rowing team bound for Biarritz, France to compete in the 2008 European Ocean Thunder series, with teammates Mark Bournville, Matt Kirk, Craig Knox, Brad Myton, Bruce O'Brien and Hayden Smith. Dallinger and the Piha boys took Gold in the final, giving them the title of the European Champions.[ citation needed ]
In December 2010 Dallinger after coaching at the Waikato Regional Rowing Performance Centre for a few months decided to get back in the boat, training paid off and after the National Rowing trials was selected again as part of the Men's Coxless Four along with 2007/08 teammate Carl Meyer and two new boys Benjamin Hammond and Chris Harris the pair both from Whanganui. Already they have had some success in the campaign to the World Championships later on this year in Bled, Slovenia securing a 2nd at the World Rowing Cup in Hamburg, Germany.[ citation needed ]
Robert Norman Waddell is a New Zealand Olympic Gold Medalist and double World Champion Single sculler rower, and America's Cup yachtsman. He is a triple New Zealand Supreme 'Halberg Awards' Sportsperson of the year winner, 1998 to 2000. He holds the third fastest 2000 metre indoor rowing machine time in the world, clocking a time of 5 mins 36.6 secs (5:36.6), which was the previous world record for 19 years before the time was improved by Joshua Dunkley-Smith. He also held the record for 5000m on the rowing machine with a time of 14min 58sec. This made him the first person to go below 15 min for this distance. He holds a black belt in judo. He played rugby union for Waikato. Waddell was Chef de Mission of the 2014 and 2018 New Zealand Commonwealth Games teams, and the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics.
Drew Cameron Ginn OAM is an Australian five-time world champion rower, a four time Olympian and triple Olympic gold medallist. From 1995 to 1998 he was a member of Australia's prominent world class crew – the coxless four known as the Oarsome Foursome.
James Bruce Tomkins is an Australian rower, seven-time World Champion and a three-time Olympic gold medalist. He is Australia's most awarded oarsman, having made appearances at six Olympic games ; eleven World Championships ; four Rowing World Cups and eighteen state representative King's Cup appearances – the Australian blue riband men's VIII event,. Tomkins is one of only five Australian athletes and four rowers worldwide to compete at six Olympics. From 1990 to 1998 he was the stroke of Australia's prominent world class crew – the coxless four known as the Oarsome Foursome.

Christopher Sherratt White is a former New Zealand rower and Olympic Bronze medallist at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. He is described as "one of the giants of New Zealand rowing" and with 38 national titles, holds the record for most domestic rowing titles in New Zealand.
Rebecca Scown is a professional rower from New Zealand. Together with Juliette Haigh, she won the bronze medal in the women's coxless pair at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Previously they had won gold in the women's pair at the World Rowing Cup regatta in Lucerne, 2010 and at the 2010 World Rowing Championships at Lake Karapiro and the 2011 World Rowing Championships in Bled. After winning a bronze medal with the New Zealand women's eight at the 2017 World Rowing Championships, she is having a break from rowing in the 2017/18 season.
The 1978 World Rowing Championships were World Rowing Championships that were held from 30 October to 5 November at Lake Karapiro near Cambridge, New Zealand. Twenty-eight countries were represented at the regatta. In the history of the World Rowing Championships, 1978 was the only year when the lightweight rowing championships were not held in conjunction with the open men and women event; the lightweight events had already been held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in August.
Grace Elizabeth Prendergast is a former New Zealand sweep rower. She is a 15-time national champion in the premier category, an Olympic champion, a five-time world champion and the current (2022) world champion in the coxless pair. She grew up in Christchurch, where she started rowing for the Avon Rowing Club in 2007. She competed at the Tokyo Olympics in two boat classes and won gold in the coxless pair and a silver in the eight and set a new world's best time in the pair. Various parties, including the World Rowing Federation, expected her to win medals in Tokyo. She was the highest ranked female rower in the world twice in a row in 2019 and 2021. Since 2014, her rowing partner in the coxless pair has been Kerri Gowler. Prendergast is also a Boat Race winner, having competed as part of Cambridge University Boat Club's (CUBC) women's crew in 2022. She retired from professional rowing in October 2022.
