Gavin Petersen is an American basketball coach who is the current head coach of the Utah Utes women's basketball team. [1]
A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Petersen graduated from University High School, where he played basketball as a point guard and off guard. [2] [3] He also played football as a running back and defensive back for Pac-5. [2] [3]
In 2011, Petersen returned to the University of Hawaiʻi as assistant coach of the women's basketball team under Dana Takahara-Dias. [4]
On November 22, 2024, Petersen was named as the new head coach of the University of Utah women's basketball team. [5] The change was made four games into the 2024–25 season, after Lynne Roberts was hired as the head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks in the WNBA. [5]

University Laboratory School (ULS) is a charter school in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, United States, and it serves students from grades K-12. Prior to 2002, the school was known as the Education Laboratory School or University High School when it was a part of the College of Education at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
Timothy Kealii'okaaina Awa Chang is an American football coach and former quarterback who is currently the head coach of the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. During his playing career at Hawaii, he set several major college football passing records, including the NCAA record for most all-time passing yards; this record was later eclipsed by Case Keenum in 2011, and Dillon Gabriel in 2024, although Chang still remains in third place.
Frank Harold Arnold was an American college basketball coach. He served as the head basketball coach at Brigham Young University (BYU) from 1975 to 1983 and at the University of Hawaii at Manoa from 1985 to 1987.
Kenneth Va'a Niumatalolo is an American college football coach and former player who is the head coach of San Jose State. He was the head coach of the Naval Academy from 2007 to 2022, accumulating the most wins in program history. Niumatalolo played college football at the University of Hawaii. As a quarterback he led Hawaii to their first postseason bowl game in 1989. Niumatalolo is the second person of Polynesian descent to be named head coach of an NCAA Division I FBS college football program and the first ethnic Samoan collegiate head coach on any level. Niumatalolo was inducted into the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame on January 23, 2014.
