Patricia Susan Summitt was an American women's college basketball head coach who acquired 1,098 career wins, the most in college basketball history at the time of her retirement. She served as the head coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team from 1974 to 2012.

The 1982 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament was the first Women's Basketball Tournament held under the auspices of the NCAA. From 1972 to 1982, there were national tournaments for Division I schools held under the auspices of the AIAW. The inaugural NCAA Tournament included 32 teams. Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, Cheyney State, and Maryland met in the Final Four, held at the Norfolk Scope in Norfolk, Virginia and hosted by Old Dominion University, with Louisiana Tech defeating Cheyney for the title, 76-62. Louisiana Tech's Janice Lawrence was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. Jennifer White is a former women's basketball program head coach at St. Edward's University. She played college basketball at Louisiana Tech University where she was a member of the 1981 AIAW Division I and 1982 NCAA Division I National Championship teams. White earned her undergraduate degree in physical education in 1983 and her master's degree in physical education in 1985; both at Louisiana Tech. In 1985 Louisiana Tech head coach Leon Barmore hired White as a full-time assistant coach; the Lady Techsters basketball would win the 1988 NCAA Division I National Championship. In 1990 White left Louisiana Tech to serve as an assistant coach for Jody Conradt at the University of Texas at Austin where she coached until 1993. She then worked a basketball training and conditioning programs for the PlayStrong division of Ironsmith Corporation in Austin, Texas. From 2003 to 2012, White had been with the St. Edward's women's basketball program as head coach and achieved a 91–155 record. White played high school basketball at Loretto High School in Tennessee. White has been a women’s basketball referee for the National Collegiate Athletic Association since 2012.

Frances Hollingsworth "Holly" Warlick is an American college basketball coach who was head coach for the Tennessee Lady Volunteers. She replaced head coach Pat Summitt prior to the 2012–13 season and held the position until the end of the 2018–19 season. Warlick was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001.

The 2016–17 UCF Knights women's basketball team represented the University of Central Florida during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I basketball season. The Knights compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the American Athletic Conference (The American). The Knights, in the program's 40th season of basketball, were led by first-year head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, and played their home games at the CFE Arena on the university's main campus in Orlando, Florida. Under Coach Abe, the Knights earned their first 20-win season since 2010-11 as well as their first-ever WNIT bid. They finished the season 21–12, 9–7 in AAC play to finish in fourth place. They advanced to the semifinals of the American Athletic women's tournament where they lost to Connecticut. They received an automatic bid to the Women's National Invitational Tournament where defeated Stetson in the first round before losing to Georgia Tech in the second round.
Kim Rosamond is the head coach of the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team. She was named head coach on March 31, 2016. She was previously an assistant coach for the Vanderbilt Commodores for 9 years and an assistant at Middle Tennessee State University from 2003 to 2005, where she also served one month as interim head coach.
