Frances Ann "Fran" Ulmer is an American administrator and Democratic politician from the U.S. state of Alaska. She served as the seventh lieutenant governor of Alaska from 1994 to 2002 under Governor Tony Knowles,becoming the first woman elected to statewide office in Alaska,and lost the 2002 gubernatorial election against Republican Frank Murkowski. In 2007 she became the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA),before serving as Chair of the United States Arctic Research Commission between 2011 and 2020,appointed by President Barack Obama.
The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is a public university in Anchorage,Alaska. UAA also administers four community campuses spread across Southcentral Alaska:Kenai Peninsula College,Kodiak College,Matanuska–Susitna College,and Prince William Sound College. Between the community campuses and the main Anchorage campus,roughly 15,000 undergraduate,graduate,and professional students are currently enrolled at UAA. It is Alaska's largest institution of higher learning and the largest university in the University of Alaska System.

Gary Lee Stevens is a Republican member of the Alaska Senate since his appointment in February 2003. Stevens represents Kodiak Island,the southern Kenai Peninsula including Homer and Seward,and Cordova. He was previously a member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 2001 through 2003. Thelma Garcia Buchholdt was a Filipino American community activist,politician,historian,public speaker,cultural worker,and author. She was elected to the Alaska House of Representatives for four consecutive terms,from 1974 through 1982. She was the author of the book Filipinos in Alaska:1788-1958,which is now in its third printing and is available through the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center.
The Alaska Anchorage Seawolves men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the University of Alaska Anchorage. The Seawolves were an original member of the now defunct men's division in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). They played at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage,Alaska,and moved to the Seawolf Sports Complex on campus at the start of the 2019–20 season.

Philip Munger is an American composer,music educator,political blogger,and environmentalist living in Alaska. He is perhaps best known for "The Skies are Weeping",a seven-movement cantata written in tribute to Rachel Corrie,an American member of the International Solidarity Movement killed in 2003 by a bulldozer operated by the Israel Defense Forces while she tried to prevent a house demolition in the southern Gaza Strip during the Second Intifada. He currently lectures on cultural history at two campuses of the University of Alaska Anchorage and occasionally teaches tuba at the main Anchorage campus. He was born in 1946 and attended Oberlin Conservatory and the University of Washington,where he studied musical composition.
Lora H. Reinbold is an American politician who is a member of the Alaska Senate. She was a member of the Alaska House from 2013 to 2019,representing District 26. In 2018,Reinbold was elected to the Alaska State Senate representing the G district. She served in the State Senate from 2019 until retiring in 2023. From 2015 to the end of her tenure,Reinbold was the only member of the Alaska State Legislature unaffiliated with a caucus organization,as she was ejected from the Republican-led majority caucus in March 2015.
Elizabeth Arnold is an American journalist who was NPR's National Political Correspondent. After 17 years with NPR she returned to Alaska and is a tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Journalism and Communication at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Among most notable awards,she was honored with the Joan Shorenstein Barone Award from Harvard in 1994,the duPont Columbia Silver Baton in 1994-95 for political coverage,and the 1997 Dirksen Award for distinguished reporting of Congress. She continues to report from Alaska on Arctic issues for NPR and Public Radio International (PRI) and created the website arcticprofiles.com with a grant from the National Park Service. In 2018,Arnold was awarded a fellowship at Harvard's Shorenstein Center on the Press,Politics and Public Policy.
People of Filipino descent represent the largest Asian American subgroup in the State of Alaska. Filipino seamen are recorded as having contact with Alaska Natives as early as 1788,and Filipino immigrants continued to arrive as workers in Alaska's developing natural resource industries:as sailors on American whaling ships;as ore sorters for gold mines in Juneau and Douglas Island;and as salmon cannery workers. Alaska's Filipino community has a long history of interaction and intermarriage with Alaska Native communities,and many Filipinos in Alaska also claim Alaska Native heritage.
