Scott Yanow of Allmusic states, "this sleepy affair with a European string section is unremittingly dull... the arrangements for the 15 strings, five horns and rhythm section are quite boring. There are many rewarding Art Farmer dates currently available, so skip this misfire". [2] Critics such as Yanow may not care for the laid-back, "gentle" tone of this recording, but it really depends upon your taste in jazz. One could just as easily praise this album for its relaxing, meditative grace, featuring the inimitable stylistic horn of Farmer as he unerringly hits every note and provides each with its own identity. Rather than "skipping it", as Yanow suggests, one should first at least give it a listen and make one's own decision.
