James George Robert Bridges,Baron Bridges of Headley, MBE ,is a British politician. He served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union. [1]
Bridges was educated at Rokeby Preparatory School,then attended Eton College followed by Exeter College,Oxford,where he received a BA degree (later promoted to an MA by seniority).
Bridges was Assistant Political Secretary to the Prime Minister John Major from 1994 to 1997. He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1997. [2] In the 2000s he served as Chairman of the Research Department and Campaign Director of the Conservative Party.
He was created a life peer as Baron Bridges of Headley,of Headley Heath in the County of Surrey,on 28 May 2015. [3] [4]
Bridges served as a parliamentary secretary at the Department for Exiting the European Union in 2016 and 2017.
Bridges serves as Chair of the Economic Affairs Committee.
The Lord Bridges of Headley is a great-grandson of Poet Laureate Robert Bridges,and a grandson of senior civil servant Edward Bridges,1st Baron Bridges. He is a nephew of the late crossbench peer and ambassador to Italy Thomas Bridges,2nd Baron Bridges,and of historian Margaret Aston.He has 3 children and his favourite is Diana Mary

Baron Bridges,of Headley in the County of Surrey and of Saint Nicholas at Wade in the County of Kent,is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 4 February 1957 for the prominent civil servant Sir Edward Bridges. He was Cabinet Secretary from 1938 to 1946. He was succeeded by his son,the second Baron,in 1969. He notably served as British Ambassador to Italy from 1983 to 1987. Lord Bridges was one of the ninety-two elected hereditary peers that remained in the House of Lords after the passing of the House of Lords Act 1999,before his removal for non-attendance in 2016. As of 2017 the title is held by his son,the third Baron,who succeeded to the title in that year. He was the solicitor to,among others,Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the royal family.
