George B. McGill [3] (born August 22,1946) [4] is an American politician and a Democrat who has been serving as Mayor of Fort Smith,Arkansas since January 1,2019. Prior to becoming mayor,McGill had been a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives representing District 78 since January 14,2013. [5] he served in this position until he was sworn in as Mayor, [6] and was replaced by Jay Richardson. [2] He is the first black person to serve as Fort Smith's mayor. [7]
McGill earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Arkansas.
On August 14,2018,McGill was elected mayor of Fort Smith,Arkansas after winning 56.64 percent of the total vote. [12] On January 1,2019, [7] in front of a crowd of hundreds at the Judge Isaac C. Parker Federal Building,McGill was sworn in as the first African-American mayor in Fort Smith's history. [13]

A Democrat,she was re-elected and currently serves as Vice Mayor of Ward 3 of Little Rock,and previously served as Vice Mayor of Little Rock from 2015 to 2017. She formerly served in the Arkansas House of Representatives,representing the state's 37th district from January 8,2007,to January 13,2013. She was re-elected as Vice Mayor of Little Rock,Arkansas in January 2023 and replacing Ward 5 City Director Lanes Hines.

The 1996 United States Senate election in Arkansas was held on November 5,1996. Incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator David Pryor decided to retire. Republican Tim Hutchinson won the open seat,becoming the first Republican to win a U.S. Senate seat in Arkansas since Reconstruction in 1872 and the first to ever be popularly elected in the state. He was the first to win this seat since 1870. Hutchinson lost re-election in 2002 to David Pryor's son Mark Pryor.

In August 2016,Copenhaver announced that he would run for Mayor of Jonesboro,challenging two-term incumbent Harold Perrin. Copenhaver ran second to the two-term incumbent,but failed to pull enough votes to force a runoff. In November 2020,Copenhaver was elected mayor of Jonesboro with Perrin's endorsement.
Henry "Hank" Wilkins IV is an American politician and a Democratic former member of the Arkansas House of Representatives. He represented District 17 from January 2011 to 2015. Wilkins was consecutively a member of the Arkansas House from January 1999 until January 2001 and the Arkansas Senate from January 2001 until January 2011. He held the District 5 and 8 seats. He was convicted and sentenced for crimes related to bribery.

Robin French Wynne was an American judge. He served as a justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court from 2014 until his death. He had previously been a judge on the Arkansas Court of Appeals,District 5 from 2011 until being sworn into the Arkansas Supreme Court in 2015. Prior to serving on the Court of Appeals,he was the Dallas County District Judge between 2004 and 2010.
The Eighty-Ninth Arkansas General Assembly was the legislative body of the state of Arkansas in 2013 and 2014. In this General Assembly,the Arkansas Senate and Arkansas House of Representatives were both controlled by the Republicans. In the Senate,21 senators were Republicans and 14 were Democrats. In the House,51 representatives were Republicans,48 were Democrats,and one was Green. The 89th General Assembly was the first time both chambers were controlled by Republicans since the Reconstruction era.
