German-Jordanian University (GJU) is a public university located near Madaba, Jordan. It offers more than 20 programs to over 6,000 students, primarily from Jordan and the Middle East. The curriculum differs from other Jordanian universities, with German language courses offered as preparation for the fourth academic year at a university of applied sciences in Germany and an introduction to German industry through an obligatory internship within the framework of the study program.
In August 2004 a founding committee, in cooperation with Jordan's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, began its activities in Jordan. The university's programs are designed to encourage the training of young professionals to move back and forth between Europe and the Middle East.[ citation needed ] GJU was founded on April 25, 2005, by royal decree, in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of the Federal Republic of Germany.[ citation needed ]
His Majesty King Abdullah II, in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, inaugurated the permanent site of the German Jordanian University in Al-Mushqar, near Madaba. [2]
Prof. Manar Fayyad was appointed president of the university in 2017, after being its vice-president from 2013 to 2017. [3] [4]
Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli was appointed the President of the German Jordanian University as of August 23, 2021 By a Royal Decree. [5] Al-Halhouli was a professor at the School of Applied Technical Sciences (SATS) and the Dean of the School of Applied Humanities and Languages (SAHL) at GJU. He also held the position of the President of the Middle East University in Jordan in 2019. [6]
GJU comprises two campuses in Jordan.
Main Campus in Amman Madaba Street, Madaba’s campus offers a range of undergraduate courses. It contains Seven Schools. All Departments, Offices, the Library, Four Centers, three Deanships run from the Main Campus.[ citation needed ]
Jabal Amman Campus: located in downtown Amman, includes the School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE), three centers and Deanship of Graduate Studies, Library, Student Affairs office, and the German Lounge/Dialogpunkt.[ citation needed ]
In cooperation with the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, the project team joined about 70 German universities of applied sciences into a consortium. Its members design the study programs' curricula, recruit qualified German academic staff and host German students during their year. The consortium is open to additional German-language universities of applied sciences.[ citation needed ] The five-year study programs at GJU follow the model of the German Fachhochschulen (universities of applied sciences), with their philosophy of industry-based practice and an application-oriented approach to knowledge. A large percentage of German professors comprise the academic staff, and courses in German and English as a foreign language are offered to encourage fluency. After an initial phase in English, program courses are taught predominantly in German.[ citation needed ]
All the students spend one year in Germany, 50% within a partner university, 50% within a company. [7]
GJU comprises two campuses in Jordan, the Main Campus in Amman Madaba Street and the Jabal Amman Campus located in downtown Amman. The latter offers the School of Architecture and Built Environment, as well as postgraduate studies and Master's programs. [8]
Bachelor students must travel to Germany for one year. This is called the German Year. [9] Students spend two semesters there; the first is a study semester and the second is for internship. GJU has partnerships with German universities and industries to facilitate these activities. [10] [11]
GJU launched its first Dual Studies track in 2018 to bridge the gap between theoretical education and practical experience with the support of the German government implemented through giz. [12] Since then 13 majors were incorporated with Dual Studies Programs in business school, computer science and engineering, school of applied technical Sciences, chemical and pharmaceutical engineering, architecture and built environment, design and visual communication, English and German for business and communication. [13] GJU has expanded its industrial partnerships to support the program where the number of companies has reached 79. [14]

It is located in the capital Amman in the Jubaiha District of Amman. It is composed of 25 faculties, and offers 91 bachelor programs and 161 postgraduate programs. The American University of Madaba is a non-profit university located in Madaba, Jordan. It opened in October 2011, and expects to eventually accommodate 8,000 students once the campus is completed. The standards of teaching qualifications and experience satisfy the accreditation requirements of the Higher Education Accreditation Commission (HEAC) in Jordan.
Amin Mahmoud is a Jordanian politician, educator and author. He has served three times as a member of the cabinet of Ministers of Jordan, once as a member of the XXIV Senate of Jordan, and is currently serving as a member of the XXVI senate council. He has also held the position of president of four Jordanian universities. His written works include a wide range of books, research papers and published articles in the fields of history, education and other public issues.

General officer Mohammad Yousef al-Malkawi is a Jordanian general and politician. He was the former King's Chancellor. Also, he held the post of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces from 18 July 1999, to 5 March 2002. Notably, upon King Abdullah's accession to the throne following the death of King Hussein, al-Malkawi assumed command of the Jordanian Army, further solidifying his pivotal role in Jordan's military landscape. Throughout his illustrious career, he held numerous key positions within the country, leaving a lasting impact on both the military and political fronts. Currently, he is a member of the Jordanian Senate.

He is currently an associate professor at the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the German Jordanian University and general director of TURATH, an architectural and urban design consultancy in Amman, which has executed several major interventions in historic and heritage settings.
Jumah Hammad is a writer, novelist and politician who is Jordanian of Palestinian origin. He occupied many political positions. He died in 1995 in Arish.
Mahmoud Saeed al-Karmi was a Palestinian writer, scholar of Arabic language, poet, and political journalist. He is considered one of the Symbols of the national movement in Palestine and Jordan. He was born in Tulkram in Palestine for well-known family, his father is Saeed Alkarmi, his brothers are, Abdulkareem, Hassan, Abd al-Ghani and Ahmad Shakir. He was Graduated from Al Azhar in Arabic language. He worked in Arabic language field in Egypt and Eritrea, Somalia, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan for many years. He worked also in Journalism. He was assassinated by his political opponents in Beirut.

The University of Jordan Library (UJL) (Arabic: مكتبة الجامعة الأردنية), established in 1962 alongside the founding of the University of Jordan, serves as a vital academic resource center in Amman, Jordan. Spanning over 12,000 square meters with an additional 4,000 square meters dedicated to reading rooms across the university's faculties and scientific centers, the library supports a diverse academic community. Housing over one million items, including print and electronic resources, the UJL offers extensive services to faculty, students, researchers, and international scholars. Its address located P.O. In February 2024, she was appointed as the first woman to serve as Secretary General of the Jordanian Social Democratic Party (JSDP). Dudin's career combines theatre education with political activism, contributing to both cultural and political sectors in Jordan.
