Gianina Ernst (born 31 December 1998) is a German ski jumper and the youngest participant during the 2014 Winter Olympics. [1]
Gianina Ernst was born in Winterthur, Switzerland, to a German-Swiss family. [2] Her father, Joachim Ernst, was a ski jumper and German champion who, during FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1982 in Oslo, finished 11th on the K70 hill and 38th on the K90 hill. [2] [3] Her mother, Cornelia Thomas, was a Swiss cross country skier, who represented Switzerland at the 1980 Winter Olympics and 1982 World Championship. [4]
Gianina has five siblings. Her brother, Benjamin Ernst (born 21 March 1995), is also a ski jumper. [5]
Ernst's debut in the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup took place in December 2013 in Lillehammer, where she'd already won a second place medal in a previous competition.
She was the youngest participant during the 2014 Winter Olympics when a Women's Ski Jump competition was hosted for the first time in the history of the Winter Olympic Games. [2]

The FIS Ski Jumping World Cup is the world's highest level of ski jumping and the FIS Ski Flying World Cup as the subdivisional part of the competition. It was founded by Torbjørn Yggeseth for the 1979/80 season and organized by the International Ski Federation. Women began competing during the 2011/12 season.

Lindsey Marie Van is an American former ski jumper who won her first of 13 U.S. National Ski Jumping Championships in 1998 and competed in her first FIS event in 2002. Van won a gold medal in the inaugural women's ski jumping event at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec and has a total of eight Continental Cup victories in her career.
Kamil Wiktor Stoch is a Polish ski jumper. He is one of the most successful ski jumpers in the history of the sport, having won two World Cup titles, three Four Hills Tournaments, three individual gold medals at the Winter Olympics, individual and team gold at the Ski Jumping World Championships, and individual silver at the Ski Flying World Championships. His other tournament wins include Raw Air (twice), the Willingen Five, and Planica7.
The Men's large hill individual ski jumping competition for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada was held at Whistler Olympic Park in Whistler, British Columbia. It started on 19 February and ended on 20 February. Austria's Thomas Morgenstern was the defending Olympic champion in this event. Andreas Küttel of Switzerland was the defending world champion in this event. Two test events took place at the Olympic venue on 24–25 January 2009, both won by Austria's Gregor Schlierenzauer. On the 25th, Schlierenzauer set the hill jumping record with a jump of 149.0 metres (488.8 ft) which was also tied by Finland's Ville Larinto. The last World Cup event in this format prior to the 2010 Games took place on 6 February 2010 in Willingen, Germany and was won by Schlierenzauer.
The men's large hill team ski jumping competition for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada was held at Whistler Olympic Park in Whistler, British Columbia on 22 February. The Austrian team of Andreas Widhölzl, Martin Koch, Andreas Kofler, and Thomas Morgenstern were the defending Olympic champions in this event. Widhölzl retired after the 2007-08 season. Austria was also the defending world champions in this event with the team of Wolfgang Loitzl, Koch, Morgenstern, and Gregor Schlierenzauer. The last World Cup event in this format prior to the 2010 Games took place at Willingen, Germany on 7 February 2010 and was won by the German team of Michael Neumayer, Pascal Bodmer, Martin Schmitt, and Michael Uhrmann.

She is one of the most successful female ski jumpers to date, as well as one of the most successful athletes in the history of the sport, having won four World Cup overall titles, seven World Championship medals, and a Winter Olympic medal. As of August 2024, Takanashi holds the record for the most individual World Cup wins, male or female, with 63. She also has three Guinness World Records certificates for the most podium finishes in the Ski Jumping World Cup, the most individual victories by a female in the Ski Jumping World Cup, and the most Ski Jumping World Cup individual victories in a career (overall).
Andreas Wellinger is a German ski jumper. His career-best achievements include an individual gold and silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics. He also won a team gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics and a team silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics, mixed team gold at the 2017 and 2023 Ski Jumping World Championships, an individual silver medal at the 2017 and 2023 World Championships and individual silver medal at the 2024 Ski Flying World Championships.

Ski jumper Sabrina Windmüller is her older sister and significant to her being in the sport.
