Gilbert Ballantine (born 14 March 1961) is a Surinamese-Dutch retired professional kickboxer and a nine-time kickboxing and Muay Thai world champion. [1] He also took part in mixed martial arts competition, winning three Rings Dutch championships.
Ballantine started training in Judo at a young age, in which he received a blue belt. Then he began practicing Karate. He became a Dutch and European full contact karate champion. He also practised pencak silat. He then looked for bigger challenges, eventually discovering kickboxing and Muay Thai. Ballantine became a student of Thom Harinck, a pioneer of kickboxing in the west, and was one of the first top fighters who fought out of Chakuriki Gym. [2]
Ballantine became a three-time European and a nine-time World kickboxing and Muay Thai champion. [3] During his career he has faced many highly ranked Asian and European opponents. He holds notable victories over fighters such as Ramon Dekkers (twice), Sangtiennoi Sor.Rungroj and Michael Kuhr. He also faced Muay Thai legend Samart Payakaroon in Bangkok, Thailand.
After his kickboxing career, Ballantine also competed in mixed martial arts competition and won three Rings Dutch championships.
Ballantine retired from fighting in 2003. After his career, he taught Kickboxing and Muay Thai at Mandingo Gym, Purmerend.

Samart Tiptarmi, known professionally as Samart Payakaroon, is a Thai retired Muay Thai fighter, professional boxer, and entertainer. He is four-division Lumpinee Stadium champion and WBC world champion in boxing who is often regarded as the greatest Muay Thai fighter of all time. He also released several successful albums in Thailand and appeared in multiple films and tv shows. His first name, Samart, translates to "Capable" in Thai and his last name, "Payakaroon," translates to "Dawn of the Tiger." This, in addition with his handsome appearance earned him the nickname "Jade-faced Tiger."
Ramon Dekkers was a Dutch professional Muay Thai fighter and kickboxer. He won multiple international titles in Muay Thai during the 1980s and 1990s. Nicknamed the "Turbine from Hell", he was a fan favorite due to his fast-paced, aggressive fighting style which resulted in many brutal fights and knockouts. He was also praised for his willingness to fight in Thailand, including challenging for the Lumpinee Stadium Lightweight title.
Charin Sorndee, known professionally as Dieselnoi Chor.Thanasukarn, is a Thai retired Muay Thai fighter. He was the Lumpinee Stadium Lightweight Champion for four years until he was forced to retire after running out of challengers. Nicknamed "Mr. Sky Piercing Knee", he is often regarded as one of the greatest and most dominant fighters in the history of Muay Thai who was especially known for his devastating knees.

K-1 Grand Prix '93 was a martial arts event held by the K-1 organization on April 30, 1993, at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan. It was the inaugural K-1 World Grand Prix, featuring an eight-man tournament fought under K-1 rules. The eight tournament qualifiers were all invited on the basis of their achievements in the kickboxing world. As well as tournament matches there was also a full contact karate bout between Andy Hug and Nobuaki Kakuda. The event featured ten fights with fighters representing seven countries. The winner was Branko Cikatić who defeated Ernesto Hoost in the final by first-round knockout, becoming the first K-1 World champion.
