Golam Rahman (born 7 January 1951) is an educationist, media researcher and communication expert of Bangladesh. He has served as the Chief Information Commissioner of the Information Commission of Government of Bangladesh. [1] [2] [3] He also served as the chairman of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) [4] the chairman of the department of mass communication and journalism of University of Dhaka as well as head of journalism department of Daffodil International University. Birth and education

Rahman was born on 7 January 1951 in Sherpur District. He passed Secondary School Certificate (SSC) from Sherpur Victoria Academy in 1966 and passed Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) from Jagannath College in 1968. Later, he graduated from Ashek Mahmud College in Jamalpur District in 1972 and got a Post-Graduate Diploma in Journalism degree from the department of mass communication and journalism from University of Dhaka. He took the first position in the first class and received two gold medals in the post-graduate examination of journalism at the Mysore University, with the scholarship of the Government of India. He obtained PhD in journalism and mass communication from the same university in 1986. [6]

Politics and liberation war

Rahman was associated with progressive student politics in the student life. He was an active activist of mass movement in 1969. In 1971, he took part in the liberation war. He fought in Sector 11. [7]

Career

Rahman started journalism in the 1970s as the Daily Azad and Sherpur district correspondent of the Bangladesh Times. In 1977, he started his career as a journalist in Eastern News Agency (ENA). In that year, he joined Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He became a lecturer in the mass communication and journalism department of University of Dhaka in 1978. He has long been a professor of Mass Communication and journalism department of Dhaka University and he served as the chairman of the same department until 1990–93. [8] Joining the Information Commission as Chief Information Commissioner and He was the chairman of the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) before. [9] He was a pro vice-chancellor of Daffodil International University in 2014–15. He has been a professor in the department of mass communication and journalism of Dhaka University for almost four decades and served as provost of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall of the same university.

Rahman also was professor and head of department of language and communication studies (2008–2010) of the University of Technology, Papua New Guinea. [10] Rahman is also acting as the chairman of the National Broadcasting Policy. He is also the chairman of Asian Media, Information and Communication (AMIC) Bangladesh Representative and worked as a media specialist of the UN's International Drug Controller Project. He was the vice-president of the Commonwealth Association for Educationals in Journalism and Communication (CAJAC). He is a member of the Bangladesh Sensor Board Appellate Committee.

On 15 March 2016, he resigned as the governor of the central bank after the cyber hacking and theft of US$101 million in foreign reserves from the Bangladesh Bank account held at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Golam Sarwar

Golam Sarwar was a Bangladeshi journalist and writer. He served as the founding editor of Samakal and Jugantor. He was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2014.

Golam Maula Rony is a Bangladeshi politician and businessman. He is a former Jatiya Sangsad member from Patuakhali-3 constituency representing Bangladesh Awami League. He joined Bangladesh Nationalist Party in November 2018.

Lutfor Rahman

Motin Rahman

Matin Rahman is a Bangladeshi film director. He is also known for the film writer and actor. His debuted film was Lal Kajol. In 1993, he won Bangladesh National Film Awards as a Best Director for the film Andho Biswas.

M. Golam Shahi Alam is a Bangladeshi academic, currently working as one of the members of Bangladesh Accreditation Council. He is the former vice-chancellor of Sylhet Agricultural University. Faizul Latif Chowdhury

Faizul Latif Chowdhury is a civil servant from Bangladesh, who currently serves as the Director General of Bangladesh National Museum. Chowdhury has written on a variety of academic topics, including corruption in public administration, tax policy, economics of tax evasion and tax avoidance, smuggling, and international trade policy. He is also a translator of Bengali poetry, and has researched the modern poet Jibanananda Das. Currently he works at Independent University Bangladesh as adjunct professor business.

National Information and Communication Technology Awards is the only state and highest prize in the Information and Communication Technology sector of Bangladesh. The award is being given since 2017.

Pantho Rahaman

Faridur Rahaman better known as Pantho Rahaman is a journalist of Bangladesh. He work as special correspondent of Channel i. He has received the National ICT Award for the year 2017, for his special contribution in ICT journalism. He is the president of Diplomatic Correspondents Association Bangladesh for the year 2021.

Habibur Rahman (police officer)

Habibur Rahman is a Bangladeshi police officer. He is currently Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Bangladesh Police. He currently holds office of Dhaka Range DIG at Bangladesh police, Dhaka Before it he was DIG of Administration and Discipline at Police Headquarters, Dhaka. M. Shahinoor Rahman Bangladeshi writer, academic, folklorist, media personality, researcher

Dr. M. Shahinoor Rahman is a writer, columnist, academic, folklorist and singer in Bangladesh. He is the senior most Professor of selection grade in the Department of English and Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the Islamic University, Bangladesh. He has been serving as Pro-Vice-Chancellor since 2013.

Muhammad Mustafizur Rahman was a Bangladeshi Islamic scholar, professor, academician and Quran translator. He served as the 7th vice chancellor of Islamic University, Bangladesh from December 10, 2001 to April 2, 2004. He also served as a professor at the University of Dhaka. The first Bangladeshi scholar to translate the Qur'an into English, Rahman wrote many books and scholarly articles on Islam.

Muhammad Enam-Ul Haque was a Bangladeshi academician, historian and writer who served as the fourth vice-chancellor of Islamic University, Bangladesh from May 9, 1995 to September 2, 1997. He was also a professor in the Department of Islamic History and Culture at Chittagong University.
