Mervyn's was an American middle-scale department store chain based in Hayward, California, and founded by Mervin G. Morris (1920–2021). It carried national brands of clothing, footwear, bedding, furniture, jewelry, beauty products, electronics, and housewares. Many of the company's stores were opened in shopping malls; however, some locations were operated independently. Based on 2005 revenue, Mervyn's was the 83rd largest retailer in the United States.
Caldor, Inc. was a discount department store chain founded in 1951 by husband and wife Carl and Dorothy Bennett. Referred to by many as the Bloomingdale's of discounting, Caldor grew from a second story "Walk-Up-&-Save" operation in Port Chester, New York into a regional retailing giant. Its stores were earning over $1 billion in sales by the time Mr. Bennett retired in 1985, by which time Caldor was a subsidiary of Associated Dry Goods.

This bankruptcy became a liquidation on March 31, 2009. At least 5 prime locations became Macy's stores, while several more became Forever 21 stores.

Although a buyer for Stage could have prevented liquidation, Stage later announced that they would proceed with going out of business sales at all locations.

Charlotte Russe is an American clothing retail chain store that operated in the United States, headquartered in San Francisco, California. Fashions in the stores are targeted at women in their teens and twenties. The company owns and operates stores in 45 states. As of June 2014, Charlotte Russe operates 560 stores, mostly in malls and shopping centers. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on February 4, 2019. It was announced on March 7, 2019 that it would be closing all of its remaining stores and would be attempting to sell the brand's intellectual property. In April 2019 the company under new ownership has announced on its website that it will reopen 100 retail locations. After the company announced it was closing its stores, the brand was sold to Toronto-based YM Inc., according to a press release.
