Naxalite–Maoist insurgency Armed conflict in India between the state and Maoists

The Naxalite–Maoist insurgency is an ongoing conflict between Maoist groups known as Naxalites or Naxals, and the Indian government. The insurgency started after the 2004 formation of the CPI-Maoists – a rebel group consisting of the PWG and the MCC. Their origin can be traced when the Communist Party of India (Marxist) split in 1967, leading to the creation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist). In January 2005, talks between the Andhra Pradesh state government and the CPI-Maoists broke down and the rebels accused authorities of not addressing their demands for a written truce, release of prisoners and redistribution of land. The ongoing conflict had taken place over a vast territory with hundreds of people being killed annually in clashes between the CPI-Maoists and the government every year since 2005.

One of the newly formed states in India, Chhattisgarh covers an area of 135,194 km2. It was recognized as a state on 1 November 2000. The education scenario in Chhattisgarh is not very remarkable as it lacks proper educational infrastructure. However, the state government has launched several programs for enhancing the academic scenario of the state. The overall growth in the literacy rate has been possible due to the persistent efforts of the state government. According to the 2001 census report, Chhattisgarh had a literacy rate of 65.18% which included male and female literacy rate of 77.86% and 52.40% respectively. It is reported that she had a vision about Mahatma Gandhi and his ideals during the famine of 1951 and she started a movement, for the liberation of women and eradication of superstitions and drinking habits among the tribal people. The movement gradually assumed the status of a cult movement with a following of over 80,000 people and was later converted into a non governmental organization, under the name, Bapu Dharma Sabha Adivasi Seva Mandal. The organization functions through several ashrams set up in the states of Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
