The Great Northern Football League is an Australian rules football league centred on the city of Geraldton in Western Australia, which was formed in 1961 as a merger of the Geraldton Football Association and the Northampton-Upper Chapman Football Association. [1] It currently includes four clubs from Geraldton (Brigades, Railway, Rover and Towns) and one each from Mullewa, Northampton and Nabawa (Chapman Valley).

Geraldton is a coastal city in the Mid West region of Western Australia, 424 kilometres (263 mi) north of the state capital, Perth.

The Mid West region is one of the nine regions of Western Australia. The Mortlock Football League is an Australian rules football competition based around 8 clubs in the south-west region of Western Australia. Howatharra is a small town in the Mid West region of Western Australia, between Geraldton and Binnu. It is situated just off the North West Coastal Highway and on the Oakagee River.

Nanson is a small town in the Mid West region of Western Australia, between the city of Geraldton and the town of Northampton. The town is situated on the banks of the Chapman River in the Chapman Valley. At the 2006 census, Nanson had a population of 386.

William Charles Gordon Thomas was an Australian rules football player, coach, and administrator who was involved with the East Perth Football Club in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL) in a number of roles from the 1920s to the 1950s. Thomas played 114 games for the club from 1927 to 1936, having previously played for the Kalgoorlie City Football Club in the Goldfields National Football League (GNFL). He won best and fairest awards with East Perth in 1928 and 1929, also winning the Sandover Medal in the latter season. After his retirement, Thomas served as club secretary and club president, as well as coaching the club in 1942, when the competition was age-restricted due to the Second World War.

The Northampton railway line, also referred to as the Geraldton to Ajana railway line, ran from Geraldton through Northampton and on to Ajana in Western Australia. It operated between 1879 and 1957. It was the first government railway constructed in Western Australia.

Main Roads Western Australia controls the major roads in the state's Mid West region. There are four main highways through the Mid West: The north-south coastal route of Brand Highway and North West Coastal Highway, the inland alternative Great Northern Highway, and the northern section of Goldfields Highway, which links Meekatharra with Kalgoorlie. A network of main roads connects towns within the Mid West to each other, the highways, and neighbouring regions, with local roads providing additional links and access to smaller townsites. Roads are often named after the towns they connect.

Jack Carroll is an Australian rules footballer who currently plays with the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Jack graduated from CBC Fremantle in 2020

The Upper Chapman Valley railway line was a 61-kilometre (38 mi) long state government-owned and WAGR-operated railway line in the Mid West region of Western Australia, connecting Wokarina, a siding on the Northampton railway line at Glenfield, to Yuna.
