Greater Isfahan metropolitan area is a metropolitan region in Isfahan Province, central Iran.[ citation needed ] This region, although not having any official designation and recognition yet, is the second biggest one in Iran, behind the capital city Tehran (Greater Tehran). The overall region has a population of over 4,900,000 with an area of 4500 km² and extends along Zayandeh Rud, the main river axis through the province, and also along the northern-southern axis of the city, plus a western axis towards Lorestan Province. The region is a transportation hub and an industrial centre having concentrated all steel related industries in it. The region is also home to important military installations and centres, including nuclear facilities and airbases.

Gholam-Reza Nikpey, also Nikpay was deputy prime minister of Iran and Mayor of Tehran. He became Mayor of Tehran in 1969, succeeding Javad Shahrestani. Prior to that, he had served as Iran's Minister of Housing from 1966 to 1969. During his tenure as the Housing Minister, an earthquake rocked the Province of Khorasan, causing mass destruction. He was in charge of rebuilding. It turned out to be one of the best rebuilding projects in the country's history. In 1977, he was appointed to the Iranian Senate by the Shah.

The majority of the population of Iran consists of Iranic peoples. The largest groups in this category include Persians and Kurds, with smaller communities including Gilakis, Mazandaranis, Lurs, Tats, Talysh, and Baloch.

Meymeh is a city in, and the capital of, Meymeh District of Shahin Shahr and Meymeh County, Isfahan province, Iran. It is in the vicinity of the arterial road of Tehran-Isfahan.

Greater Gerivan is a village in Aladagh Rural District, in the Central District of Bojnord County, North Khorasan Province, Iran. "Sarcheshmeh" of Gerivan, is one of the main tourist attractions of this village. It is one of the most abundant springs in Bojnourd region, whose water is distributed among farmers through the use of waterways. The people of this village speak Khorasani Turkish. Most of the surnames of the villagers are Gerivani. Gerivan is sometimes referred to as Gerivangeles because of its vastness and resemblance to the city of Los Angeles. Pumpkins are a well-known symbol of Gerivan. The local language is Turkish.

The 2021-2022 Iranian protests erupted on 15 July 2021 to protest the water shortages and crisis, but were quickly met with police violence and brutality. "Bloody Aban", November 2021 saw further protests due to water shortages but various other protests and strikes also took place due to the worsening economic situation. In August 2021, Amnesty International noted that brutal forces have been used by the Security Forces to oppress the protesters.
