History

The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1425, but the church was not new that year. The old medieval church was torn down in 1783 and replaced with a new building on the same site. [3] In 1791, the church interior was decorated with rosemåling by Tore Asbjørnson Risøyne. In 1898, the decorations were painted over, because it was felt that the congregation spent too much time looking at them during services. In 1941, the decorations were uncovered as part of a major restoration project. [4]
